My mom makes wonderful zucchini breads Marie!

I don't think the occasional home made breads would be counter productive to healthier eating.

We have a ton of home grown carrots that are just rotting in the ground since nobody picks them and eats them,  I aught to go get a bunch wash em up and pop them into the blender next time I am making a smoothie.

I've got some great eating ideas,

Broccoli is going to change the taste of anything you put it into, because it has a strong distinct flavor.

With fruits (in smoothies or put through a juicer) you can try carrots.  They complement the flavor of the fruits and you can't even tell they're in there and they come out of the juicer almost creamy.  You may also want to try beets, because they are kind of sweet and shouldn't contrast much with the flavor of the fruits.

I've heard of people grinding up carrots and adding to a meatloaf, but have never tried it myself.   You can make lasagna with some veggies in it, like spinach and very thinly sliced zuccini.  And this may be counterproductive to healthy eating, but zuccini bread is really awesome and it doesn't taste like veggies are in it.

I substitute sliced eggplant for pasta when making lasagna, yummmmm

It's not the mental part of it, all though if you knew that mushrooms were grown in huge flats of poop and soil, you'd certainly be like ewww ewww nasty it's been in direct contact with poop ewwwwwww.

Most fruits and vegetables are grown with the aid of poop. It's still better than eating the creature responsible for producing the poop.

I'm a meat eater by nature, nature intended me to eat meats , and I have no problem happily doing so hehehe.

And yeah most fruits and veggies use poop from animals in fertilizer, so it is indeed a good thing I am not grossed out by how they're fertilized:)

Actually, I think if most people knew more about agriculture I think they'd feel this way about everything.  The compost and such used with mushrooms is often sterilized and environments in which mushrooms are grown is watched and manipulated to extremes.  When compared.. the mushrooms might actually be cleaner then most of the other things we eat.  I'd sooner eat a mushroom I haven't brushed off before I'll ever take a bite of unwashed organic fruit.  All about how you look at things [:'(]

go to your nearest bookstore and check out Jerry Seinfelds wife cookbook. She has hidden all kinds of veggies into different dishes. For example: you could make a meatloaf as mentioned above put grated carrot in it and various other veggies and some cheese. I have a great recipe for meat loaf, you put a lot of things in it. Just mixing it up smells so good i want to eat it raw...
Which reminds me i haven't had it in ages and its time to make one!! :)

...She stole most of the recipes, and apparently they're pretty shockingly bad. Just for the record.

Just experiment with different veggie recipes until you find something you like. If it's a texture thing, try pureeing and making soup.

I'd try googling some recipes, but I've never seen a smoothie recipe with veggies in it.  Blech to the broccoli!!!  urgh...

I did see an ad today for V8 juices - they've come out with a new line that sounded really good.

Broccoli is good. And even better with cheese.

I hate mushrooms, I refuse to eat them. Have for all my life. Stuffed bell peppers now are a different story, and so would stuffed squash be a different story.

if you've always refused to eat mushrooms, how do you know if you genuinely wouldn't like them?

Mushrooms are awful.

Don't need to eat them to know.

I had no idea her stuff was bad. Oprah had her on and ate some of the foods that she made. I think they may have passed some among the audience to try..

One thought comes to mind....Just eat your vegetables (in the same tone as clean up your plate). Not sure what the sneaking is about.

I agree.  How will your meats feel if they realize you're cheating on them?

Seriously, it depends on what you're sneaking them into.  Omelets are easy to add veggies to, and soups as well.  Also consider just TRYING veggies as side dishes and seeing if they taste better than you thought.  Artichokes can be a lot of fun to eat!

I like asparagus, but I've heard and been told it makes your vagina* if you're a woman* smell funky and mens piss and semen smell bad so do not eat it. I never pay any heed to it though, since I'm not in contact with his piss.lol.

Suck it up and eat the damn salad, broccoli, etc., etc.....

ALAstella -> RE: What are some ways of sneaking veggies into meats themself and still taste good? (1/11/2009 3:49:58 PM)

How about curry? That's right, put it in the curry - everything, veggies, dead flies, cockroaches, anything and everything... I can assure you nobody ever tells the difference.

I don't like spicy foods, and I do believe curry is spicy, and for any one who says oh it's not VERY spicy, pepper like in salt and pepper burns and bothers my toung

Hey I said I liked green salads, lol.

And broccoli, when it's home grown I just wash it and rip a stalk off the pod and eat it out of the garden.

My main problem with the Jessica Seinfeld book is that if you cook a vegetable, puree it, add it to something else and cook it some some, how much nutritional value from the original vegetable is going to be left?  Additionally, for UMs, it doesn't encourage them to try new things and actually learn to enjoy vegetables.

StrictnSaucy -> RE: What are some ways of sneaking veggies into meats themself and still taste good? (1/11/2009 5:21:49 PM)

If the juices are saved to make a soup / stock its not an issue

Agreed that it is important to introduce all food types to um.

It seems to me that YHMA is trying to work on a healthy diet so what ever improvements she makes is a plus

I haven`t followed this thread much but wanted to ask, why is it necessary to sneak in veggies ?

Daddysredhead -> RE: What are some ways of sneaking veggies into meats themself and still taste good? (1/11/2009 5:26:41 PM)

Because some people can't seem to eat them like grown-ups and have to play "airplane" or something to get them into their mouths, I guess.
