Arduinna -> I call upon the creative minds that gather here... (1/10/2009 12:58:48 PM)

Hey you guys,

I'm planning on starting up my own sex store, and I need a name for it. I've got nothing worthwhile (possibly Pandora's [Toy/Fun] Box, but...eh), and the friends of mine that claim they are more creative at names...also have nothing. So, I call upon you guys to see if anyone can come up with an awesome name for a sex store.
Conditions:

Can't be cutesy...preferably nothing that has to do with love, passion, romance...etc. I don't want it to drive away those who are single/not romantically attached.

Has to be something that can be put on a shopping bag, but that people (men or women) won't be embarrassed carrying around.

On the note of acceptability, I'd prefer it be something that teenagers/adults would recognize as a sexual euphemism/double entendre etc, but that a child/innocent religious type girl wouldn't be traumatized with, and wouldn't immediately think sex.

I'd like it to have some kind of word play in it, having to do with sex, sexuality, sex toys, etc. As long as it's tasteful, anything goes. Mythology (nothing with Venus, Aphrodite, Eros, Cupid, please. nothing cliché- ick) works out and I would prefer that the name be something that is pronounceable, please.

Seriously, if you come up with an awesome name you WILL get credit for it, I assure you.

THANK YOU!!!

Arduinna ^.~

What about "The Other Side" or something like that?  Its plain enough that Grandma or Lil Billy wont say much about it, but it also describes that sexy side that people are going to your store to search for.  Its all I got after 1 pot of coffee and 4 hours of sleep...sorry!

What kinds of merchandise will you be selling?  Do you have a theme or color scheme, symbols or logos planned?  The more you describe your store the easier for us to visualize an appropriate name.

The one I was looking at before when contemplating a similiar online store was KinkSupply.com  Though that may be to direct a reference.

I haven't come up with a logo yet, I'm trying to get a name first and then make the logo from there. Not sure about colors...

I'm not going to specialize in any one thing, in fact I'm going to be the sex store that everyone NEEDS, dammit! A little bit of everything. Bdsm/fetish gear, lubes, latex, liberators, vibrators, dildos, lingerie (men, women, xdressers, plus sizes!), gag gifts (bachelorette/bachelor parties), books, movies, shoes, games, etc. Basically, I dunno about you guys, but pretty much every sex shop I've been to has little selection, and very little variation, and none of it is really good quality. I'm young, but I know what I'm doing, and I know what people want/need, and that they just want a one-stop shop, you know?

(as for hot blue/blew dreams...I quit working at a place called Night Dreams back in september and one of their colors is blue. I think they'd think I was copying (lousy uncreative, greedy coke sniffing bitch she is. *ahem*) and try to come after me or something.)

I dunno if this is of any help though...=/

I advise taking a look at Good Vibrations, The Sub Shop, Extreme Restraints, The Stockroom and others and writing down what you like and don't like or would like to incorporate into your design and look.  Include images, photos, designs, doodles and whatever words come to mind.

Opening an Online shop that sells a wide range of products may not go as well as a niche market because you have a lot of competition already and they are established businesses that can buy in bulk and have their own product lines.

Who/what is your target demographic?  Can they get the same items cheaper on say, Adult Toy Chest or E-Bay?  Or would you be undersold by that company that does sex toys in-home parties?  (I can't remember their name at the moment but it is like a vibrator rather than a Tupperware party)

Some of the sites use a very clean, graphic, black & white look.  One uses a lot of pink and bright colors.  Some will use photos and others will add drawings.

Basically, you need a scrapbook of ideas for brainstorming.  You will find the right image or photo or quote that sums up your concepts perfectly and describes your store the way you imagine it.

Decadent Delights - this one on a shopping bag could even be construed as something from a pastry or candy shop.

Wow, holy cow...okay...my store isn't going to be online, it's going to be brick and mortar. Also, looking for cheapest warehouses/distributors is something I'm already in the process of doing. As for getting things cheaper elsewhere, that's one of the reasons why my coworkers (then) and I were joking about setting up our own shop. Night Dreams has 300-400% markup on everything, and the prices are ridiculous. They actually got mad at us because we weren't using our employee discount (20% I think it was) to buy things from them. They were charging $100 for an Adam and Eve magic wand thing and it was $30 online. I'm aware of price differences and quality differences. Having worked in the adult retail line and talked to people and learned different things about the business I'm pretty sure I could pull of quality at reasonable prices.

As for coming up with a name/logo/colors...I'm working on that. Name is what I need right now, the rest will come after that (I'm good at that kinda thing). Thank you for your suggestions though!! ^^ Most helpful!

I want to know what sort of credit I'll get, before letting my creative juices flow in your shop's direction.

Haha, you'd get some kind of compensation, or a nod to your creativity somehow wherever the name is displayed...haven't quite figured out how yet, but I'm not going to let someone else's idea go uncredited
