Aneirin -> A picture is worth a thousand words (1/11/2009 4:14:01 AM)

On the subject of profile pictures, who here is fastidious  about the pictures they use on this website or indeed any website?

A picture is worth a thousand words, and perhaps more besides in some cases, some pictures more information can be gleaned than perhaps was intentional. Maybe it is the photographer in me, but I am critical about my images, what appears in a background and what does not, for I am aware of what can be conveyed other than what is intended.

Where a background is beyond control, I am aware of how it can distract and will in the editing stage make efforts to reduce it's impact, but I was wondering about others  on here that have posted photographs, do you think  about what information you put across when you post a photograph ?

Of other's images, perhaps it is a source of amusement to me what information can be found from an image other than a person's likeness, a messy background perhaps, that of an untidy room, I feel I can picture the photograph being taken, a picture like that perhaps shows an honesty as it seems untidy rooms are common with humans.

As an aside, in movies and such, I notice errors of continuity and feel that when a background shows a timepiece, these movies are generally spot on in continuity, perhaps it is the director inserts a timepiece to demonstrate their skill in getting it right, or even as a guide to themselves to get it right, but often it is a timepiece is displayed in a back ground, especially where there is ongoing dialogue crucial to the plot. An eye for detail, or lack of interest in the story, whatever.

Hmm yes..I do look at the pictures too in that way (on profiles). I saw Dom's saying they like order...while their cloths were spread over the floor..across the whole room actually.
It does say something..but propably not all. My pc room is a mess..my office is a mess...but you will never see it in my picture (unless you think my face is a mess..lol)

For movies.
I love to see a knight with a watch...or a film about the stone age...where a plan passes in the background..lol
There is a website with all these kind of things.

Actually I am, when I took mine I made sure certain posters were visable in the background, one of my fave actor one of some art work because if people mentioned them I knew we had something in common. I think one of mine was taken in a messy room but you cant really tell.

Before posing for your profile photo, arrange all of your kink gear and sex toys in view of the camera just so people know you are serious.  [;)]

Thank you ever so much for such a  ~wonderful~  bit of information.

Perhaps that is why I never got much response to my profile here.   Duh!  *smacks forehead with palm of hand*

*scurries about, gathering up all of her gear, and figures the best way to display it all so that a new profile picture can be taken.*

Mine is a picture of my sex organ. Of course I had to cover it up just a bit.

I do try to avoid having clutter in the background of my photos as I know that is something that can be off-putting in profiles I look at.  I generally dislike the photos that show a messy bedroom or kitchen etc in the background

came4U -> RE: A picture is worth a thousand words (1/12/2009 4:52:31 AM)

I have seen anything from messy, filthy backgrounds, dirty ashtrays to highchairs within near proximity.  All are a big turn off.

Sometimes you can tell more about a person from their surroundings than the person themselves.

Pictures of those who rock climb are not bad but honestly, who rock climbs daily?  Another thing is cars,  I don't want to see a person's car or truck.  Nor some other woman's arm cropped out of a picture.  Can he not get a new picture, alone?

Clean clothes are another must.  If you are going to present yourself to the singles world, clean clothes, shoes, teeth, hair really help.  Pictures from bars or holding up drinks is another pet peeve.  Also no need for the shirtless chest/no head pictures, seen one chest you've seen em all.

*edit: oh and people should turn their lights on or take pictures in daylight, I want to see what you really look like.

I don't really browse profiles or pics so i can't say i have noticed much about their backgrounds.
I would say though be careful what judgements you make about the background of a pic. Mine for example were not taken in my home. So technically the background says zilch about me.

I would say the entire photo says something about the user, since the user was the one that chose to put it up.

If the background is messy then I have to assume they will not be a good service slave for me. Service being about more than sex and BDSM in my happy little world.

If their photos are strong on a specific kink, and all their gear, I am pretty wary also.

I'd rather have bad sex with a good looking guy, than good sex with an ugly one.

NewlySingle329 -> RE: A picture is worth a thousand words (1/13/2009 10:01:25 PM)

I find it incredibly distracting to notice an error, whether in a movie or in a picture.  Drives me crazy!  LOL

MarksFantasyGirl -> RE: A picture is worth a thousand words (1/13/2009 10:30:20 PM)

I don't really notice the details in the background of my own pictures until it's too late.  I try to be very careful, but sometimes, I mess up.  I take lots of pictures of myself.  Most of them are either in the bathroom, or the kitchen because those are the rooms that have the most light.  I have a picture on my myspace that is a really good picture of me.  But the only comments that I have are about the picture of the freaking toilet in the background.  Grrr... lol
