sorry Bbw, i was just repeating what i have heard come from star interviews.  i am sure not all conservatives are douchebags/bad actors!  geez!

What did Mickey Rourke ever do besides fuck Lisa Bonet up the ass?

Well, He was great in a tiny roll in Body Heat... " Every time you think of committing a crime, there are 100 ways to fuck up. If you can think of 90 of them, you're a fucking genius, and councilor, you're no fucking genius".

He was great in Diner, 91/2 weeks ( better, imo, than Brando in Last Tango), Rumble Fish and The Pope of Greenwich Village.

My personal favorite is Barfly in which Mickey played Charles Bukowski opposite a brilliant performance by Faye Dunaway. Great casting, considering that Bukowski was also an often vilified, alcoholic artist that always went his own way, despite the cost to him. As an aside, this is a question that has always fascinated me... can you separate an artist from his demons (muse ) ? Lots of examples , from Oscar Wylde to Marvin Gaye. I think not.

Great cameos in Once Upon a time in Mexico and Man on Fire.

Mickey also wrote and co-starred with Tupac in Bullet.

As far as the plastic surgery is concerned, perhaps we should remember that Mickey suffered a broken nose multiple times as well as a split tongue and a crushed cheek bone. Do you think he would look better without the surgery ?

Finally, Mickey had an abusive step-father that used to back-hand him at the dinner table if he rested a hand on it and worse. He once said in an interview " There's still something I'm hitting back at, even though it's a ghost". He's always identified with the underdog and, perhaps in this case, that's why he chose to defend Bush. I dunno, but, does it matter ? Everyone, genius or asshole has an opinion.

I admire Mickey as an actor, artist and yes, even as a man. He's always been just himself, made a lot of mistakes and has many regrets. Who of you is gonna throw a stone ? I know we are all just so perfect , eh ?

As far as the OP goes, we all know that baby will quote any celebrity that shares her own views on Bush, etc. My [sm=2cents.gif] on this one is that I disagree with Mickey and baby on this one, but I'd rather have a beer with Mickey.

i quoted MR on my OP because i found him showing again he has balls!  his statement is not a popular one in Hollywood!  that is why i quoted him.  read my post on this thread!

i do not support George Bush, get your facts straight, bud!

Vendaval -> RE: Mickey Rourke's statement about President Bush (1/13/2009 12:21:42 PM)

As per usual, you are off-base in understanding what I posted.

I pity the mess that Rourke has made of his life but am glad he is doing better than circa 1990s.

LaTigresse -> RE: Mickey Rourke's statement about President Bush (1/13/2009 12:39:29 PM)

I don't see how spouting off a political opinion shows balls or a lack thereof.

Figuratively or literally.

Lucylastic -> RE: Mickey Rourke's statement about President Bush (1/13/2009 1:28:45 PM)

How can speaking up politically be brave and ballsy in a free speech society??
sounds like pr for his " rebel" attitude

I especially love this bit. Its an ignorant attitude that the article expresses but then thats not a shocker. I also love that he likes his freedom of speech because well there he is using it and in the next breath insulting our attitude to free speech.

ElectraGlide -> RE: Mickey Rourke's statement about President Bush (1/13/2009 1:38:48 PM)

Someone should tell Mickey Rourke that President Bush only has a week left in office. Sometimes you just have to wait it out.

exactly!

the superstars that ARE conservative do not make it public!  MR has had a big success recently with his movie "The Wrestler" and he made a supportive statement, whether you agree with it or not, about a very unpopular POTUS.   GAWD!  i was just saying.

Nonsense.  Some actors keep their political beliefs private and some do not, just like the rest of us.  Are you saying that you didn't start this thread because you agree with Mickey Rourke?

takes a strong man to stand up and speak like this!  this for sure is not too popular a stance in Hollywood!

no their beliefs sometimes keep them from getting the roles that lead to the awards.  many of the stars you listed in your previous post have said just that!  they want to work, so they keep their mouths shut.

How much are they keeping their mouths shut if you know about it?

baby, it seems that your sense of reality has been skewed by 8 years of the "we make our own reality" crowd.

Bottom line is, who gives a damn what Mickey Rourke thinks about Bush ? I admire him for his body of work.( Mickey, not W ) Just my opinion. I don't expect folks to agree with me, on any topic. I was simply responding to the elephant man's query as to what Mickey has done besides fuck Lisa Bonet in the ass. Imo, quite a lot.

Ain't no one touched us between February 26, 1993 and September 11, 2001 either.

Which proves exactly what?

slvemike4u -> RE: Mickey Rourke's statement about President Bush (1/13/2009 10:33:25 PM)

Never really put much stock in the opinion of actors, artists and sport stars political opinions. To hear most of these people discuss issues other than their own field of endeavor one  often learns that stardom in such  demanding and competitive fields leads to total immersion in one's discipline.Regardless of which side of the aisle they are preaching from few impress me and less can persuade me....just my humble opinion.  [:D]

bestbabync -> RE: Mickey Rourke's statement about President Bush (1/14/2009 9:09:43 PM)

hey!  i made this statement for a reason!  i admire people such as MR, whether they be movie stars or just "John Q Public" that go against the grain!

i am not a supporter of Bush nor am i a supporter of Obama.  Both have policies & ways about them i disagree with and do not like, but they both have policies & ways about them that i agree with and that i like.  BOTH represent political parties that i do NOT support!  why?  because they both have in the past 2 decades or more become almost identical.  oh, like i stated in a previous post, the pubs & dems are the same, CORRUPT and ANTI-freedom/liberty.  obviously they both have moved away from the constitution and neither party has americas interest at heart!  they proved this when the majority of pubs & dems voted for the $750billion bailout when they knew that the voters were totally against it!

furthermore, i again say MR good for you!  stand up & speak out for what you believe in even if it is not the popular thing!  obviously ALOT of people in this country do care and vote based on movie stars, talk show host and musicians political and social beliefs.   Otherwise those rich & powerful hollywood trinkets would not run their mouths on TV, Concert Stages and Political Campaign Trails.

just sayin![:D]

Dennis Miller agrees with me!  DM believes as i do that MR may have hurt his chances for that damn Oscar, oh well!!!!

Dennis Miller's a dickbag, but Rourke wasn't likely to win anyways, which is why he got the golden globe. There's currently a campaign against Rourke (and there was before he made the statements), because of his comments about the film industry during the 90s as well as how incredibly difficult and awful he was to work with. It's most likely going to go to Sean Penn for Milk (Which he was brilliant in, but for the record, he's kind of a dick as well. That being said, he's always at work on time and always gives fantastic performances).
