OscarHargraves -> RE: Alt.com any point in silver or gold membership (1/6/2006 10:38:13 PM)

I guess I'm the 'odd man out' here. I met my current Sub thru Alt.com. I found her just a couple of days after she joined and posted her profile (and before she was turned off by all the crap mail and rude idiots!) so I guess I was lucky. Turned out we lived in the same community. We e-mailed some then set up a lunch date. Things progressed from there. That was March of '03 and we're still together.

I will admit that the women have it much better there than the men. They can read profiles and e-mail people even as a 'standard' (non-paying) member, but the guys can't unless they pay to be Silver or Gold members. I too found that a LARGE percentage of the people there had not logged into the site in months so they can't really be called active members.

Some of the stories are good though, but you can read them for free as a standard member.

Although I'm still a member, I wouldn't pay for a membership there. It's just not worth it.

Edited to note: Ooops! My mistake. The women can read profiles and e-mail on AFF. They can only do that on Alt.com a couple of times a year for about a month each time. I think it's Jul & Dec but I'm not sure.

I once had a silver membership but now I have none at all. Alt's only advantage to me was that that's where most of the fresh faces begin - ie, I could find profiles of locals there that aren't on other sites such as here or bondage.com. But I think the trouble with brand new-bies is that they have overly specific wish lists in what they seek and if you can't meet it all, they won't even reply. I've been around too long to deal with that nonsense and I'm happier in letting them get a dose of reality without messing me around.

Alt is pre-school; those who belong and have realistic expectations eventually find there way to better sites like Collarme or bondage. Of course, so do many of the wankers.... lol As for Alt itself, I can understand that, as a specialty match-maker site, you hafta pay up in order to contact other members but to not even allow you to view a profile without paying?? Screw that; I expect to see what I'm buying *first*!

Focus.

My sentiments exactly.
When I first began looking into this lifestyle, I bought a membership at Alt, but the multitude of people who contacted me were such lying sick psychos that I thought I should stop considering WIITWD forever until I found collarme. I left and never looked back. Even if collar became a pay site, it would be infinitely better in my opinion as far as contacting real humans (many still with issues, but....) [:D] M

DominaJade -> RE: Alt.com any point in silver or gold membership (1/7/2006 2:13:38 AM)

I have always been a standard member and have no intention of ever paying. Besides, I still get e-mails from paid members, but I have rejected all their messages because they either didn't read my profile or weren't serious enough. IMO it's not worth becoming a paid member especially when you can interact with ppl on CM for free.

But on the bright side, Alt does have a very interactive blog community. I have my own blog there and will likely continue using that feature until Alt starts charging for blogging priviledges.

Why pay for all of the cock shots when every male on that site will send them unsolicited to you for free.
I was on that site for about a month before I removed my profile. In that whole time I don't think I saw a single face.

I met my SO about 8 years ago off of a little free ad I placed in the S/M (B/D or fetish, whateever) section of AFF. I dont think paying is the answer. If the right someone is there, they will find you through the free section.

RoninRopes -> RE: Alt.com any point in silver or gold membership (1/18/2006 2:33:03 PM)

Alt.com is garbage. All the friendfinder ones are all the same company as them. They never remove old profiles, a girl I was seeing that hasn't lived in the state for 4 years is still listed there although she has not logged in for 5 years. Most of the ones active are just seeking your email for the "look at my webcam" spam mails.

sunnydawn -> RE: Alt.com any point in silver or gold membership (1/31/2006 1:06:34 AM)

I only had standard (nonpaying) profiles on alt and aff, and i did get several replies but they were from people who had not bothered to read my profile. My ex had a profile on aff and all he got were messages from bots ie. view my website blah blah...and last time i checked (in the last 2 weeks) they have gone even farther down hill from there.

FelinePersuasion -> RE: Alt.com any point in silver or gold membership (1/31/2006 11:17:36 AM)

Alt is a resource to meet other people, however a poor resource. I am on the site but I'd never pay to use it. truth betold I think paying for bdsm sites expesially poorly run ones is a rip off and a waste of money, There's a billion more things the money could be better spent on in my pocket book.

They do allow girls provile veiws but you have to have "popularity points" and enough people a month veiwing your profile. If I am interested in someone I tell them you seem itneresting, alt doesn't allow profile veiws I have an off site email why not email me your profile.

I've met people off there, I met my x who turned out to be a deadbeat, course that's not a reflection on alt. just a poor reflection on norman

Tantalus42 -> RE: Alt.com any point in silver or gold membership (1/31/2006 1:30:01 PM)

Having used both, I can state the following:

1. Free profiles (if you're a man) aren't worth a damn, you won't get anything from it. You MUST pay to be able to play, there's just too many other men who DO pay for you to get noticed.

2. While the VAST majority of profiles on these sites are fake (most produced to get your email address so they can send you spam), there are still a significant number of real individuals and people.

3. AFF is really more for swinging and ALT for fetish/BDSM, although there is some cross over on both sites. If you're looking for fetish, you're better off sticking to ALT, but there are way more "real" people on AFF (just because of the sheer volume of users who aren't into kink... or at least think they aren't *wink*).

4. Women NEVER need to pay, they will get some many winks, hotlist adds and emails that they will always be able to do almost everything they want without bothering. (fyi, the more "views" you get to your free profile, the more emails you can send).

5. Yes, I've made some good friends on AFF, but I've let my account lapse and now have a paying one at alt. Already have had a nice email from a potential friend (hopefully more) and look forward to getting to know her. The key is in your approach on any site, this or ALT or AFF. Be yourself, be clear in what you want, be honest, and MOST importantly: RTDP!!! (read the damn profile *Grin*).

It's really a toss up. It doesn't hurt to try it for three months at silver and see if you like it, the price isn't too bad.
