If you are planning on attending the Inauguration this event will be free and open to the public at the Lincoln Memorial.

"Gay bishop to open inaugural weekend"
By Mike Allen, 1/12/09

"The Rt. Rev. V. Gene Robinson of New Hampshire, who was elected the Episcopal Church’s first openly gay bishop in 2003, will deliver the invocation for Sunday’s kickoff inaugural event on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, the Presidential Inaugural Committee said.

President-elect Obama is scheduled to attend the afternoon event, which is free and open to the public.

“The president-elect has respect for the Rt. Rev. Robinson, who offered his advice and counsel over the past couple of years,” an inaugural official said. “It also has the benefit of further reinforcing our commitment to an open and inclusive inaugural.” "

"Its his party, and he can get who he wants to, get who he wants to," (singing to "its my party")
Im not a religious person, so I couldnt give a rats ass one way or another about who does what, but Im guessing a few will snipe about it just being a balance to Warren.
But progress is progress

Its a little bizarre what a big fuss is made over the inaugeral. In Canada we don't make a fuss over the change of Prime Ministers, just a simple little swearing in ceremony and its right to work, no big folderal

i wouldn't call our inaugerations bizarre..granted some of the processes associated with it prompts one to say 'huh?'..but its a moment for the entire country to celebrate the induction into office of the person they chose.  Compared to many other countries, ours is still considered 'young' and for the U.S. to have elected a Black Man and have the inaugeration held on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial...simply takes my breath away.  i am not into sports and don't care about the Super Bowl, but when inaugeration day gets here..this is my Super Bowl!  Family and friends are taking the day off..having an inaugeration party..just sitting and watching history being made.

I don't think it's "change" when again our politicians bow to group pressures and are more concerned with catering to pressures to be politically correct.
Who cares if the Rev. Robinson is gay..his purpose that day is to pray that Obama succeeds and has the strength to carry the heavy load he has takin on.
I do hope he does stick to prayer and not use the inauguration like an actress at the Academy Awards as an opportunity to push an agenda.

I guess we are never going to stop this categorization of people by politicians as being gay, straight, minority, rich, poor, Italian-American, Jewish-American, and the ever popular "Native-American", among hundreds of other hyphenated-Americans.  Divide and conquer....it still works.

I do think that Rev. Robinson is a counter-point to Rev. Warren.  So much about the Inauguration is symbolic, the setting, the speakers and the content.  This year is one for the history books, to be sure.
