colouredin -> Ne-yo lyrics, sorry a bit of a rant maybe (1/13/2009 12:19:00 PM)

Ok so I dont very often get my feminist knickers in a twist but I saw the Miss Independent video by 'Ne-yo' and I actually got a bit frustrated. I may have totally taken it the wrong way but I get this very odd vibe from it, like isnt it cute how women have jobs now, aww bless thats quite sexy really isnt it. So yup now we should all aspire to high powered jobs because men will find that more attractive. What does everyone else think?

Ha he doesnt want a 'boss' he wants a woman who dresses as independant THEN melts into a puddle when he smiles at her and then suggests a drink. Cos whats what we do.

Edit Now I have to justify it was on a chart show I wouldnt choose to listen to it lol

I don't know very many women who get all gooey and gushy just cause some smuck smiled and suggested having a drink.  In fact, amongst my close aquaintances, it's generally quite the opposite - they're leary of such overtures, and tend more towards turning it down and going back to their conversation with an eyeroll.  Come to think of it, the only ones I know who Are like that are typically so desperate that they'd take anyone, just so they had Someone - and they aren't in positions of power in any company, their own or someone else's.

Basically he is looking for a woman that has her own car, house, job. A woman that does not need him for any of that. I don't really see why it would get you upset, other than his songs are shit.

No I know, I was attempting to be sarcastic, the implication I got from the song what that is what women are like hense getting my knickers in a twist.

All of the guys I've met who this actually mattered to - that she had her own car, her own house, her own job - were interested in such because they did NOT have their own car, house, or job, and figured if they found a woman who did they could simply use her's.  While that is likely not the case with all guys who want a woman who doesn't need "him" for such - it has been the case in guys that I've personally met who didn't want to be 'needed' for such.  (Yes, I've met far to  many complete and utter Losers in my life.)

You might just be attracted to losers. Or attracting them. "if a man does not work, he does not eat." But today's society is more tolerant of lazy men.

A woman doesn't have to drive a jaguar and own a mansion to interest me. Just have to be working towards something. I have a no leech policy.

I dont see what is so offensive about the song.  Ne-Yo is saying that he wants a woman that can handle herself.  He wants a woman who is doing actual adult things like buying her own house, and car and not depending on anyone else to give her the things she desires in life.  Whats so offensive about a man that wants a woman that can reach her goals, without a man giving her pushes along the way?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUTh3OJjWjM  In this song he talks about loving a woman that wants to "own" and "control" him.  And he writes his own lyrics....so hey, maybe that's his thing.  Speaking as a girl that likes the sound of being owned and controlled, i totally get the feeling.
