CyberTrevor -> Explain protocol for chat rooms to me (1/13/2009 12:44:49 PM)

Some of the chat rooms say Protocolol non-Protocol. What does that mean?

LuckyAlbatross -> RE: Explain protocol for chat rooms to me (1/13/2009 12:53:30 PM)

Some chats expect you to treat people differently based on their relationship orientation.

depends on the rooms...soem I remember..

sub have name without a capital in the beginning
Dom(mes) use capitals in the beginnning of the name
NO whispering (private messages) with out asking in the main room
collared/owned people wear tags like ss(DD)

sometimes Dom(mes) must be addressed as Sir or MAdam..

Gorean rooms may have different rules besides these...

Well, I was looking at the ExtremeUseRoom and it said this:
quote:

Welcome to ExtremeUseRoom! subs/slaves enter, disrobe, and go to the pit to await use. Protocol is expected, and enforced, mind your manners, or we will mind them for you!
So what's the protocol I need to observe?
Also Rape-Brutality says it's non-protocol. So what's not happening there?

You'd have to ask the room owner for specifics, but generally JD covered the basics.  It sounds like the Use room is for cyber play.

on mirc..if I am correct..you can give a command !rules
and serious chatrooms will have their rules there...including protocol

else just ask them.

bratnwranglers -> RE: Explain protocol for chat rooms to me (1/13/2009 1:43:45 PM)

most rooms have bots in them, i know the auction room does, that if you type rules!, the bot sends you a sent of rules

I was just thinking the same thing as I was reading this!  Omg, it's been over a decade, I think.  Thanks to the op for asking this as I had no idea (Though I don't intend to begin using chat rooms again, information is never a bad thing).

MRandme -> RE: Explain protocol for chat rooms to me (1/13/2009 3:08:04 PM)

Depends on the room. The one i go in doesn't have any of this crap at all. It isn't a role play room, more of an online munch (in fact many of us attend munches together) so it there is no roleplay, no 'serves' and no one swinging their Capital Letters around. You just need to make sure what kind of room you are entering.

Can anyone explain their perceived pros and cons between message boards and chatrooms?

Are ppl fundamentally one or the other, do they switch, do both?

GreedyTop -> RE: Explain protocol for chat rooms to me (1/13/2009 3:47:31 PM)

Here, I stick to the boards.  I'll use the chat rooms on alt (thats ALL I use alt for), and I used to chat on AOL.  I tried that chats here a few times, I think theyre mirc based.  Too much work LOL

ShiftedJewel -> RE: Explain protocol for chat rooms to me (1/13/2009 3:49:56 PM)

Message boards...some hello's and how are you's and lots of info (some good, some not so good) and just basic input and educational reading material.

Chatrooms... lot's of hello's and how are you's and very little info and educational anything and the occasional info with lots of cyber play.

Of course, that's just my opinion.

Neat Jewel, and once you point it out, reasonably obvious. I'm being dull of mind!

Protocol in chatrooms?

Some chatrooms require the usual ASL - age, sex, location, but the most important of all these three things is of course sex - which should be the only subject of any conversation and you get right onto it immediately.

Suggested questions:

Do you like sex?
What are you wearing?
What do you look like?
Do you have a webcam?
Do you have a photo?
Are you shaven?

Most women in chatrooms are gagging for it, they usually have vibrators and other toys ready on the desk next to the computer and webcam. Some even have a spare pack of Duracell or other alkaline batteries. Be explicit in your questions and use your imagination.

Oh if you're a guy you should be able to type with your left hand very quickly, be a 'two finger typist' (even if you are only using one finger, as a one finger typist means something else).

You can increase your speed by missing out letters, especially vowels.

However you need to use some vowels, and cannot abandon vowels altogether, otherwise people will assume you're typing in Welsh.

Using condoms helps prevent any messes. Obviously you don't use them on your fingers or you'll end up writing lots of typos.

Try not to take everything seriously.

Lordandmaster -> RE: Explain protocol for chat rooms to me (1/13/2009 6:31:31 PM)

I think it would be altogether more efficient if people in chat rooms just used an alphanumeric code.

For example,

1A = "Greetings Sirs, this bitch humbly requests permission to enter" (which really means "I saw something like this in a Gorean chatroom once and may as well try it here")
1B = "Yes, enter bitch" (which really means "Yeah, whatever")
2A = "Hello, ladies!" (which really means "I'm here to try to get laid")
etc.

My answer to this is "you can't make sense out of nonsense."  Then again that is my answer to many things.

From my perspective, the chatrooms are good if you want or need an immediate response, as the people you are talking to are online at the same time as you.  The responses on the message boards tend to be more in depth, mostly since the respondents have the luxuries of time and editing before posting.  I have used both lightly, but I am new and not yet too jaded one way or the other.
