Vendaval -> Caffeine can lead to hallucinations (1/14/2009 8:27:11 PM)

Oh those whacky British scientists are at it again!  The BBC reports a study that way too much caffeine can lead to hallucinations!   [sm=insane.gif]

" 'Visions link' to coffee intake"

 Wednesday, 14 January 2009

"Among the experiences reported were seeing things that were not there, hearing voices, and sensing the presence of dead people.

However, Mr James stressed more work was needed to pin down the link.

He said: "Stressed people may simply drink more caffeine."

And he added: "Even if caffeine were responsible for hallucinations in some way, the part it plays would be small compared to other factors in life." "

hee hee...some of those super-caffeinated beverages will make you jittery and hyper for sure!

Aneirin -> RE: Caffeine can lead to hallucinations (1/15/2009 5:22:07 AM)

Oh, that's good, an added benefit perhaps, not only does one get a hit from the most favourite beverage, you might be lucky enough to get a view within.

Without coffee, reality can put in unwelcome appearance.

I've a friend that is super sensitive to caffeine. He does have hallicinations when he consumes it. Otherwise a fairly sane and balanced person.

Noteworthy is that he also has trouble with "de-caf" as decaffeinated coffee typical has half the caffeine of regular. Remember the Sanka ads and claims? 97% caffeine free. Regular coffee is 93% caffeine free.

...2 cups of coffee are not a problem.   something like a 25% increase in coffee coming rumour

LaTigresse -> RE: Caffeine can lead to hallucinations (1/15/2009 9:50:07 AM)

I don't care what it may cause or how much it's gonna cost me.......... If I don't get my French Market coffee/chicory cafe au lait made with Soysilk every morning, NO ONE will want to be around me.

~FR

Hallucinations? That would explain why I thought it was 24 below here this morning because they seemed to say that on the news right after I had been drinking coffee.

Remind me to ship you a couple of bars of my "Java Lover's Special" for your birthday- scooter.  It's so chock full of coffee (even to the point of using dehydrated coffee crystals rehydrated in aloe vera juice as color lol) that you could probably get a caffine hit just from showering with it while your coffee is brewing in the morning LMAO.  (LoL - No, I can't verify it, and haven't specifically Tested it - but it's TEMPTING.)
