Sensory Deprivation used to be a technique that was well received in both the D/s and the B/D segments of our path; however lately little about it is said ... pro or con.

From the standpoint of the "s" is it still a technique used by your "D" or "M"?

Does it have an effect on you one way or another?

I adore sensory deprivation and I've had it used many times on me and by my current Master.

I like that it can take me into a deeper space where I feel like I'm floating and above it all, everything becomes more heightened but yet I can take more pain, I can endure more than any other time.

Master has said that when he takes me there he could skewer me and I wouldn't feel it. I'm too busy flying.

I'm simultaneously scared half to death and incredibly interested in it.

As a musician losing my hearing for a session (ear-plugs, not permanently :P) would be something that would make it... so... I can't really explain, but I base a lot of my life on sound. I can sit in a room by myself and just listen to the ambient sounds for hours. I can hear at higher frequencies than 'average' for people my age, too. Temporarily losing or impairing it would be so drastic and different...

Then there's sight, which is always wonderful...

I'd put it in a pretty big 'pro' category.

Thanks for your input,
I have found that loss pf sight is the most effective, but that is not universal.

aravain,

So have you tried it within a B
/D interaction?

Being blindfolded is the only way I can get to subspace. It centers me and takes away all the distractions and I can be inside or away from all the overload. I love it!

I have also had deprivation experience in a Flotation Tank. Its 8ft x6ft with 6inches of warm water with enough Epsom Salt that you float. You are closed in the tank thats pitch black. It feels like floating in outer space. Great for one who is easily distracted.

I love not being able to hear... but combine a blindfold, and just a little bit of pain and I start crying... it's weird, and I can't ever stop it from happening. I'm not upset, I'm not hurt... just crying like a lil bitch I suppose?

I have very minimal experience with sensory deprivation so far.  I am eager to try more though.  Blindfolding especially.  I suspect it might help me focus and process pain better.  It is very interesting hearing other submissive's experience with this.  Thank you for sharing.

Not hearing, no. Sight, yes (though it was an intellectual restriction and I broke it on purpose to get a few extra spanks... you don't tell me I get spanked for doing something and then expect me not to do it!)

At the time that I wasn't peeking it actually made it 'hurt' more when I was hit, and heightened the sense of touch in general. I'm already someone who can get pretty riled up (close to orgasm, really... over that hurdle, if the person's good enough) without any sexual contact, just skin-on-skin sensation.

I'm all a'shivering just thinking about it!

I absolutely adore sensory deprivation and Mistress loves the effect it has on me even more.  When she fully encases me in rubber, locks me in, and binds me up tight, it's an intense feeling.  When she hoods me, gags me, and plugs up my ears on top of everything else, all I can do is focus on the tight rubber encasing me, the taste of rubber from the gag in my mouth, and however she decides to use me since I can no longer hear, too.  It is a nearly instant trip to sub-space and Mistress is the pilot, able to take me wherever she chooses.

All my senses are heightened and every feeling is amplified and intensified.  Time stands still, yet it also seems to fly.  There is no concept of time, there is no realization of the outside world.  I am lost inside the depths of my submission and Mistress is the guide to freedom and sanctuary.

Mmmmmm...I sooooooo love sensory dep!

Yes.  Hooded, gloved, respirator, blindfold, Master controls sight and sound and touch and breath.  At that time, I exist because He allows it.  yummy!

lusciouslips,

Indeed i have known others that need a blindfold to make that subspace journey; thanks for your input.

In the Chicago area there is a center that has been there for years called Spacetime Tanks for the Flotation/sensory deprivation Tanks. I googled. There are other areas that have them. There use to be more, but I guess they are out of fashion. I do recommend anyone with the opportunity to try a float. Its a great meditational, relaxing and body soothing experience with 600 pounds of epsom salt per tank.

Sensory deprivation is a minature version of what handicapped individuals know: when you lose use of one of your senses your body attempts to compensate by increasing the awareness of the remaining ones.  Blindfold and earplug a submissive, and their skin will tingle in a totally new way; partially from the surprise of being touched (they don't see or hear it coming) and partially from the increased sensitivity.

Why do I suddenly have the image of feathers in my brain?

I absolutely love a blindfold.  I love the feeling  I get when blindfolded.  I don't necessarily go into subspace easier, it's just a "difference".   I like eye contact with my Dom (not necessarily watching what He does, but His eyes and expressions) so taking that away ... well.   Sound not so much.  I can tune sounds out that would otherwise be a distraction.

Daddy has never used Sensory Deprivation on me, nor has any of the doms I have played with, since I started at 18.

IT's an interest of mine, but not so easily done since I want to do full on stuff like water tank submersion.
