This is the same Barack Obama, by the way, who keeps saying that "Everybody is going to have to make sacrifices..."

He even told a crowd in Oregon that "We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times ... and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK,"

No, as a matter of fact I can clearly recall a lot of American politics. Such as the Democrats in Congress who were outraged (OUTRAGED!) because American auto executives had the NERVE to fly to Washington on private jets while seeking taxpayer money...

The nerve of those guys... !

Exactly the point. It's a silly argument going nowhere.

Soon someone will be along to report "Yeah, but the Republicans spent this on that" and thread will go on for pages, amounting to nothing but faux outrage at expenses that are always going to continue because they contribute to the political system in place.

Maybe you're right. I guess that all of Obama's lofty promises on the campaign trail were just a lot of hot air, what else were we to expect.

Except this behavior is more akin to North Korean politics.

Say...

Whatever happened to that one guy who always used to call Obama "Dear Leader" all the time.

Real issues?

You mean, like how much heating fuel that money could buy for needy Chicago families?

Issues like that?

Not to worry, your buddy Hugo Chavez has that covered.

$150 million for inauguration

Of course. It's all theater, folks. The PTB is well aware that the dupes...oops, I meant the American People, need more promise, more hope, and the biggest dose of warm fuzzies since the Great Depression.

$150 million is a drop in the bucket, relative to what's at stake.

Notice the words "federal funding" in this article:

~FR~

It would be interesting to know some of the comments that some here have made, concerning the same things but about a party or politician they did not like. I truly believe that hypocricy is one of the greatest sins anyone can make, as it often points to a situational code of ethics, that is not maintained with integrity. We have all been guilty of hypocrcy, it is human nature, but to deny it because of false pride or political cheerleading is a big problem.

As far as the inauguration itself, I am in MM's camp, let them do what they want because they will anyway, and the American people will do nothing to stop them.

"Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain."

I haven't seen an estimate of 150 million on any mainstream news; the Washington Post and NYTimes had the following info about the cost and the declaration of emergency.

Congress allocated about 15 million for the inaugural.  DC said it would cost about 48 million.  DC requested the state of emergency and about 5 days later Bush approved it.  That allowed DC to request the additional funds, which are federal funds.

The increase in funding is due to the estimated 1.5 to 2 million attendees.

From the Times :
"The government has already set aside $15 million to help the District pay for security and medical personnel. But the District’s mayor, Adrian M. Fenty, asked for more money on January 7, citing possible crowds of 1.5 million to 2 million and “the associated stresses that would place on the city’s capabilities, particularly the medical community,” said Scott Stanzel, a spokesman for Mr. Bush.

Mr. Bush granted the request as “a precaution,” Mr. Stanzel said; if the District needs the money, it can apply for reimbursement through the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The declaration will also allow federal public health workers to join in the public safety effort."

You're right. The people will do nothing to stop them. And they won't pay attention to "the man behind the curtain" either. But as obedient sheeple, they will perpetuate the ridiculous left vs. right paradigm.

So spending a hundred and fifty million on one guy in one day is a good thing now.

Everything's changed, and new rules apply.

Got it.

What was his platform again... ? Ah, never mind. It doesn't really matter, does it.

I've read that Republicans who are getting out of town to avoid the security and crowd chaos are making nice money renting out their places...

Ummm no.

It`s more like spending 150 mil on millions of people.

Did bush or Clinton have millions of people show up for the party?

Not having enough emergency folks, cops, security,EMTs,etc. to cover that many would be irresponsible, incompetent, dangerous, poor planning and would show reckless disregard.Or what bush would do.

Jeezzz,it`s going to be so good to have the shoe dodger out of power.I would say that even if PE Palin was taking office.

Although many people assume the inauguration is paid for with tax money, in fact the entire event is funded by donors.

The entire list of donors is available at http://www.wral.com/news/political/page/4324089/

That`s what I was saying.

What the  not so happy people are complaining about is what DC and the feds NEED to spend to cover the enormous crowds that`ll be there(spending money, renting rooms, taking cabs, buying tickets/rail passes, buying meals, buying Obama shwag and generally lifting the local economy.

The not so happy people are complaining that Obama is wasting our money/taxes dollars.Which of course, is malarkey.
