I'm wondering if ANYONE could live up to half the expectations people have for him.

Let me put it this way,
There isn't enough money in the world that would make me swap shoes with our President Elect. And I'm completely serious. It seems like every nation and country out there and everyone here (America) is either holding him to impossible standards or waiting for the misstep and the tumble.

I'd be bleeding from my eyes.

edited for clarification.

Well the first thing that goes wrong and the first harsh words said about him will bring about a defensive round that will make things worse.

As it stands so far either you are completely for the man or you are a Right Wing Whacko Racist.

In all reality, he is already feeling the heat he keeps making press appearances where he continues to point out that none of what is wrong in america is going to be fixed anytime soon.

Sadly he is getting bad press on all the wrong things. The condition of America is from Nearly 2 decaded of mistakes and most likely won't be fixed by the time he leaves office be that 4 or 8 years from now.

Steel

I agree. i don't think things will be fixed for a long time. i think the American people expectations are seriously out of whack. I suspect they think this will be fixed within a year. I fear they will turn on him pretty quick. We do not have the patience to see things through or have them fixed long term. In other words we hate to wait and our spending habits have been out of whack for a long time.
Most  i don't think want to pull the reins on their behaviors.
I could be wrong but time will tell...

Bush might not keep his place on the unpopular Presidents list for very long.

Obama knew exactly what he was getting into when he decided to run.  He knew about the wars, and he knew about the economy.  Nobody sane could have predicted the Paulson bailout mentality, but aside from that he is stepping into a pile of manure that he's known about.

Also... everything he has done to date shows him to be mature.  He can handle negativity in the press.  Matter of fact, any Dem President will get lambasted by Coulter and Limbaugh.

Don't worry about how he takes things.  Worry if he can clean up the mess.

His biggest problem will be his whole campaign promice of 'change'..Not much of anything will change. We will not be leaving Irac. 30,000 more troops will be headed for Afganistan. The economy is a mess and has been heading there for about 15 years. The biggest hurdle, minorities will find out that an African American president can do very little to help them financially. They will have to do that on their own. As a Republican, I wish him the best and hope he keeps this Country safe, just as Bush has...

All except for that one little blunder back in 2001.

But hey, nobody's perfect.

I sure as hell did not vote for Obama and truly believe he is not ready for the job.  I hope Joe Biden's comment during the primary that "the Presidency is no place for on the job training" is proved to be just another incorrect judgement from a man who has never held a real job.

In a day Obama will be my President Obama.  He will be responsible for the future of my family and my country.  I do not wish him to fail...far from it... I will join with anyone if we are doing what is right for all of us

My biggest concern for Obama is not attacks from neo-cons like me but from his own party.  Pelosi is in a position to ruin any intelligent legislation, continue the waste, pork  and agenda driven appropriations of Congress, and already is saying stupid things about taxes contrary to the President-Elect.

Tomorrow is not only the most important day in the life of Barack Obama.  It is the most important day for the country since the Declaration of Independence and the declaration of War between the States.  God help the man.....I fear his party will not be so helpful.

The war on terror started in October of 2000 when the USS Cole was bombed while sitting in port. Bill Clinton was president and did absolutely nothing about it.

And George Bush took office 3 months later and did what?

But really if you want to compare apples to apples you would have to cite an attack on American soil,  the WTC bombing in '93.

So, by your logic, Bill Clinton kept us "safe" for as long as George Bush has.

pahunkboy -> RE: I am excited about our new President but are you getting tired of all the press? (1/19/2009 7:05:02 AM)

and we arent safe from any of them per the banksters.   glunk

cory, I am very far from you politically and usually disagree with you but I agree 100% with your post.

TNstepsout -> RE: I am excited about our new President but are you getting tired of all the press? (1/19/2009 7:34:34 AM)

Why do you think he interjects into every speech "we have a long way to go and there will be setbacks"?

Even with setbacks I still have high hopes for Obama. Just the fact that he has stopped the bleeding in terms of our worldwide reputation is a positive step.  All it took to do that was to be gracious and rational. *shrug*

Mercnbeth -> RE: I am excited about our new President but are you getting tired of all the press? (1/19/2009 7:35:53 AM)

Tomorrow is 'Palm Sunday'. I think it will take more than 5 days; but the similarly ignorant, and expecting salvation, crowd will start building the cross soon afterward.

Tomorrow is the day when reality replaces rhetoric and there is neither the money or the will for President Obama to face it. There are no companies getting ready to hand 'Help Wanted' signs on Wednesday. There are no press conferences scheduled for new plant openings. There is nobody sitting on the sidelines with investment money buying into a promised plan of daily government involvement in their business and private lives.

The people cheering for him tomorrow will be shouting 'crucify him!' by the end of summer.

I am not an American...but I can understand the enthousiasme. But I think people will be disappointed...because 1 person can't change the world in 4 years. People look at him like he is a god....but he can't do mirracles. And the timing..isn't the best either.
