MistresseLotus -> Inaugral Thoughts (1/20/2009 11:03:38 AM)

I had the oddest realization  when I looked at Bush's face as he sat behind Obama during his inaugral speech.. it felt like the nation had been exorcised and this demon has now been removed and sent back from wence he came.

The only grand finish I would have liked to see is all million+ spectators throw their shoes at Bush.  I would've liked the see the bugger duck 2 million shoes!

I liked his comments about "the rule of law".
Since when was it ever "optional" to enforce our laws?

MichiganHeadmast -> RE: Inaugral Thoughts (1/20/2009 11:43:50 AM)

Every four years or so we exorcise one demon and get another.  We will do it again in another four or eight years.  Let's not fuck it up by repealing the 22nd Amendment.  Keep changing out the demons.

And if someone from another country were to show the same level of disrespect for President Obama?  The shoe-throwing incident was not a show of dislike/disrespect/hatred for Bush, the Man, it was about dislike/disrespect/hatred for Bush, the President and his embodiment as the symbol of our nation.

I'll just bet you loved the "poet's" speech too...about how we look forward to the day when "brown is still around, when yellow is mellow, when black no longer has to be in back, and when white concedes what's right" since the only color that the poet had a problem with...on this day when we put an African-American into office...was white.

Like so many of you RWers, you miss the point.  It was because of his miserable failure of a Presidency, and the effects on Iraq.  The shoe-thrower wasn't throwing it at the office, but rather at the incompetent buffoon that was occupying it (and soiling it in the process).

What a lame attempt to rewrite recent history.  Can't believe there are still 27% of you people out there trying to defend the Worst President Ever.  Sheesh.

SilverMark -> RE: Inaugral Thoughts (1/20/2009 2:25:50 PM)

CD that wasn't a poet....that was Ralph David Abernathy....it was actually a quote for the 60's and from the movement.
Rev. Abernathy was the co-founder of the SCLC with MLK...the phrase was used long before we had to be politically correct.

GreedyTop -> RE: Inaugral Thoughts (1/20/2009 3:00:20 PM)

My thoughts on the inauguaration:

GB Sr. is looking rough.
Michelle is a beautiful woman, but who the hell dressed her?
*giggles* when Obama kinda flubbed the swearing in
GOD those people had to be FREEZING!!!!!

But mostly...

I am so grateful to be alive and to witness this historic moment.  I have a feeling of optimism re: the Presidency and this country that I dont recall ever having before

What Greedy says, to see all that hope and happiness in regular peoples eyes after so long, it cant help but lift your own spirits.

I didn't watch the inauguration, but I read the text of Obama's speech.  That's the first time I ever felt the kind of optimism that was present at Kennedy's inauguration.  It's like we're finally waking up from a long, long, nightmare-like the past three decades.

The only thing that could have made it better was if Bush and Cheany were dragged from the White House in handcuffs, black bags over their heads, to be spirited away to one of their own "black prisons"... never to be heard from again. Who knows? Depending on how well they both did for their "Saudi Masters"... they might end up rotting in some hell hole in the end anyway.

Actually it was Chief Justice Roberts (a Dubya appointee) who flubbed it.  He left out "faithfully" from "faithfully execute the office..", then tried to stick it on the end of the sentence.  Obama (a Constitutional law scholar) then waited for him to do it correctly.

The phrasing is proscribed by the Constitution, so it's a good idea to do it right. [;)]

President Obama
President Obama
President Obama
President Obama

Ghod I like the sound of that.  Almost as much as I like the sound of the helicopter blades ferrying Dubya off into obscurity.

GreedyTop -> RE: Inaugral Thoughts (1/20/2009 5:25:09 PM)

ok, whoever flubbed it, it was kinda cute :)

And yes.. doesn't President Obama have a wonderful ring to it?

Lucylastic -> RE: Inaugral Thoughts (1/20/2009 5:25:36 PM)

Cnn say that this is the first time that a new pres has seen the old pres off the premises.... I think they just wanted to make sure he left!!!!

Humans have the capabilties to commit horrible things, as I believe Bush and his crew did. Do not look at him as a demon though, or we may forget that it was a human that did this. Every President is human. Some are worse than others, but in the end they are all politicians and seek power.

Bullshit!

I think the majority of people around the world recognize that this imbecile wasn't the embodiment of our nation.

I think they recognize that he made decisions and took actions that the majority of Americans abhorred.

Sanguinarian -> RE: Inaugral Thoughts (1/20/2009 6:08:33 PM)

Bush rather looked like he was attending his own funeral.... apt enough :P

DarkSteven -> RE: Inaugral Thoughts (1/20/2009 6:13:18 PM)

I certainly have no love for Bush. However, today is a day in which all Americans share in ushering one President out, and a new one in.  It should be a holiday from the bitter feelings that will return all too soon.
