I'm a pacifist, that is I. If these people are acting in fear surely not guts are required to pull the trigger just instinct?
Now you are saying there is a thought process involved I've seen little sign of in previous replies such as "if I feel a threat that's good enough and I may kill the postman opps sorry." Paraphrasing.

Just for the record, it still takes balls to pull the trigger in self defense.  Taking a human life is not as easy as many "arm chair warriors" make it out to be.  Most who claim that they don't need anything but their bare hands for defense woulld be bent and anally abused before they could do anything.
Criminals are not interested in how many belts you have or how many trophies.  They are interested in taking what is yours up to and including your life and that of your family.  Unless you've ever taken a life in defense of yours or someone else's your bragging is empty air.

I disagree IrishKnight.  You do not need balls or bravado to pull a trigger, that is a falicy to make certain people feel manlier.  And before anyone pulls the sexist card out on me, I doubt you will hear many females stating it takes balls to protect ones own, but it does take common sense to know the right time to use one.

And I am not anti-gun at all, far from it.  I am wary of limiting it's usage to those whose only criteria would be affordability however.

Those who have never taken a human life have no idea how hard it can be.

Canada wont be variations cup of tea thats for sure, he can say goodbye to his weapon at the border....lots of regulations, tests etc to use a gun. Im surprised he would allow himself to come to such a socialist country. I guess some people just love to be loners.

As my earlier post said those replies are empty air and macho bragging.  Those more likely to do something besides end up a statistic have said something more like, "I will defend my life and that of my family."

RCdc -> RE: britain wants guns back (1/23/2009 6:51:51 PM)

Of course.  And those that have, do know.
However, it doesn't take balls.  I find it distasteful to insist it does.  It takes instinct and common sense.  Even realisation.  But balls?  No.

Unless you want to define what you mean by 'balls' as I may be misunderstanding you because of your definition.

I'm not the one who needs a gun for my protection. Who needs the balls?

Bravo [sm=applause.gif]

Ditto.

I’m still not getting this.  Correct me if I’m wrong but it sounds like you’re saying: you get the irony, you must be perceptive – unlike your fellow Americans.  While personally flattering I still find that somewhat insulting, not to mention bigoted.

Ah, no, in retrospect, you did not get the irony. You are, indeed, in the right country.

colouredin -> RE: britain wants guns back (1/23/2009 8:05:05 PM)

Can someone please explain to me what we are talking about now? because I seem to have lost it after someone went though each post saying that actually all us poor ignorant Brits didnt realise that actually we were sheltered and then something happened and urm I lost the general thread of thought. I thought this was a thread about us wanting guns, we all said we dont (of course we are all wrong) and now we are saying how brave people are to pull triggers?

kittinSol -> RE: britain wants guns back (1/23/2009 8:15:47 PM)

Yep [:D] .

colouredin -> RE: britain wants guns back (1/23/2009 8:17:30 PM)

Ah see I thought maybe in my alcohol induced state I was misunderstanding it all.

Mind I would like to second the.darkness' sentiments for any Brit to come forward and say why we should all have guns.

kittinSol -> RE: britain wants guns back (1/23/2009 8:20:10 PM)

Huh, huh, we should definitely all have water guns in the summer, when it's hot. And vodka guns, for parties. And we should have elastic band guns, for people who have office jobs in dreary cubicles.

Marc2b -> RE: britain wants guns back (1/23/2009 8:21:08 PM)

I'm not asking about getting the irony.  There's nothing to get.  Advocating gun control yet having a gun toting avatar is ironic in and of itself.  I'm asking why getting the irony puts me in the "wrong" country.

kittinSol -> RE: britain wants guns back (1/23/2009 8:22:12 PM)

Jeesh, lighten up, dude. *psssssssssssssssshhhiiit*

colouredin -> RE: britain wants guns back (1/23/2009 8:23:07 PM)

Because the stereotype is that Irony is a British thing

Oh and KS you are so welcome over here with your water pistol  [;)]

Somebody telling me to lighten up!  Now that's fucking ironic!  I mean - GOD - how many times have I told that to people on these boards.

There! Finally!  I get it now!  Thank you!  I kind of forgotten the stereotype of the British about being the masters of irony.  I try to forget stereotypes (I don't always succed but I try).

The United States, however is a mixed bag.  You can find every form of humor here.  So I guess I'm in the right country after all.
