Yikes! Yahoo is reporting that three people have been stabbed to death in a Belgium daycare center!
Time to hand in your sharp knives people!
No more steak for you, hamburger only!

You miss a huge point when you say things like this.
Steak knives are made to cut steak with. Yes you can kill someone with one but you can kill someone with pretty much anything.
Guns on the other hand are made to kill.

I imagine that if the fucker who committed that atrocity in the nursery in Belgium had had a gun, it would have been even worse.

And if someone in the daycare center had a firearm they could have popped this guy after his first slashing so we come full circle.
And yes, guns are made to kill.
Wouldn't you want that power in the hands of The People rather than *solely* in the hands of a "government?"
I just don't think it's the job of govt to try to *dictate* to The People.
I really don't care what the govt. "thinks" or "says" they're there to "serve" The People not to fucking "lecture" us! (The U.S. Govt)

Kittin, have you been out shooting yet?

Ok but what if said slasher had a gun. Would he have killed more people? Quicker to use a gun than a knife.
It may not be the job of the government to dictate to the people but they sure as hell do a good job of it. Lets face it they could make guns illegal all over america too and what could you do about it? Other than carry an illegal weapon of course.

Popeye, your principle is that if you want firearms, you should have them. In the U.K., the principle is that if people don't want firearms, they shouldn't have them.

See? Simplissimo.

BamaD -> RE: britain wants guns back (1/23/2009 9:04:05 AM)

20 + kids killed in a massacer in England even more in one in Fance and one in Germany don't tell me these things only happen in America or that they are routine.  The last one that happened here in a grade school or high school was 2 years ago and the guy didn't shoot any of his victims.

kittinSol -> RE: britain wants guns back (1/23/2009 9:05:02 AM)

Huh?

Woah there Tiger, slow down take your meds it'll all be ok [;)]

We mentioned the Brit school massacre ages ago in the thread and noone said these things only happen in America.
Actually the tragedy is that they happen at all, don't ya think?
All down to guns in the wrong hand's.

Dnomyar -> RE: britain wants guns back (1/23/2009 9:11:39 AM)

Lets go back to switzerland. Everyone there has a gun in their house. How high is their crime rate??

missturbation -> RE: britain wants guns back (1/23/2009 9:13:57 AM)

I can no longer take part in this discussion, i've been spotted.
Holy crap
Hi Sir *waves*

kittinSol -> RE: britain wants guns back (1/23/2009 9:14:03 AM)

You are completely wrong, Raymond. Not every house in Switzerland has a gun in it. Read up on the subject.

Dnomyar -> RE: britain wants guns back (1/23/2009 9:16:38 AM)

A huge percentage do. Every man hast to serve time in the armed forces and most take their gun home with them.

colouredin -> RE: britain wants guns back (1/23/2009 9:18:02 AM)

All of this stuff is so redundant. We as a majority dont want guns, doesnt matter about gun rates or crime elsewhere.

Dnomyar -> RE: britain wants guns back (1/23/2009 9:23:28 AM)

So why dosent your country do what Americans do. Put it up for a vote.

colouredin -> RE: britain wants guns back (1/23/2009 9:26:38 AM)

Because there has been no petition to? because its a none issue? because no one has asked to government to consider it? Do you vote on things that no one cares about? You would be voting on everything then. As I said earlier the only people on this thread saying that we should have the right to guns are Americans all of the Brits have been adverse to the idea

This does not make 'every household in Switzerland'; and with approximately 300 deaths each year because of of suicide/murder/ accidents due to army issue handguns, the army has stopped the practice of providing ammo to the men who went to military service. So... there goes your theory.

It's actually comical: "you should do as I do, not as you want to do".

I own a pick axe but I am guessing it does not involve that.

DMFParadox -> RE: britain wants guns back (1/23/2009 10:07:01 AM)

I own a gun.

My grandfather owned a gun. A rackful, in fact.

My friends own guns.

Strangers I meet on the street have about a 30-40% probability of either owning a gun or having access to one fairly readily.

Individually, I'd say the balance is that it doesn't increase or decrease my chances of getting robbed or seriously hurt. The only person I know personally who murdered someone did it with a baseball bat, not realizing how dangerous a heavy piece of wood can really be.

My dad was attacked with a crowbar and robbed, almost killed--frankly I'd rather the guy held him up with a gun. Oh, and my dad's pro-gun control. We try not to raise the subject around each other too much.

Individual cases aside... as a town, group of neighbors, or society at large... it would probably be wise to not fuck with us too much. That's not even considering the military; that's our civilians.

I like the image of the fat and lazy American for how ironic it is. Most people I know are tough, hardworking, clever and stand a fair chance of being armed. It's the noisier ones that often lack one of those qualities, sadly.

Not that "simplissimo".
The people who want them should have them.
