DMFParadox -> RE: britain wants guns back (1/23/2009 10:07:01 AM)

I own a gun. My grandfather owned a gun. A rackful, in fact. My friends own guns. Strangers I meet on the street have about a 30-40% probability of either owning a gun or having access to one fairly readily. Individually, I'd say the balance is that it doesn't increase or decrease my chances of getting robbed or seriously hurt. The only person I know personally who murdered someone did it with a baseball bat, not realizing how dangerous a heavy piece of wood can really be. My dad was attacked with a crowbar and robbed, almost killed--frankly I'd rather the guy held him up with a gun. Oh, and my dad's pro-gun control. We try not to raise the subject around each other too much. Individual cases aside... as a town, group of neighbors, or society at large... it would probably be wise to not fuck with us too much. That's not even considering the military; that's our civilians. I like the image of the fat and lazy American for how ironic it is. Most people I know are tough, hardworking, clever and stand a fair chance of being armed. It's the noisier ones that often lack one of those qualities, sadly.
