YourhandMyAss -> Are there any massage therapists in Sacto, that in price range about 40 to 50 dollars stead of 100? (1/22/2009 1:38:23 AM)

And maybe hopefully any places I can get good body work done that accepts medical, maybe a chiro even.

I have a huge amount of tension and stress in my neck my left shoulder and down between my shoulder blades, My pillows cause it. I sleep on two feather pillows one on top of the other, and I lay on my side. Now normally when the pillows cause stress it's just a day or two, but my pain and stiffness have lasted a good week or more.

And before any one suggests stop sleeping on my side, I can't sleep any other way, I'm not comfortable on my back, and I can't breath on my stomach because I am so heavy.

I tried just one pillow, or one of Daddies regular foam ones, but I've slept on feather pillows since I was a child anything else doesn't feel right.

And no, I don't like those memory foam wedges either.

Daddy massaging it isn't helping, infact it hurts for him to mess with the tension, muscle relaxants and pain pills like Tylenol and muscle ache Excedrin ect ect are not touching it.

I can't afford to go to any one at all technically since I am broke after paying bills and debt, but I figure 40 or 50 isn't to bad.

1. Why are you asking people who don't live in Sacramento?
2. Have you tried the Yellow pages?
3. Have you tried losing weight? (I am not saying this to be cruel/. Excess weight puts extra stress on the skeleton and muscles)

YourhandMyAss -> RE: Are there any massage therapists in Sacto, that in price range about 40 to 50 dollars stead of 100? (1/22/2009 2:57:46 AM)

Yeah, actually I am asking people who live in Sac, or maybe know about Sac, Other wise I wouldn't of addressed it the way I did, The point of asking, is that There's people all over the boards, who're in Sacramento  This isn't a group for say people who're in Ohio only.

Therefor, those who live in Sac may come and answer.

Now, . If it was regionalized only, to certain locals and regions, , and the common region was Ohio, Then I'd agree with the  first , statement of why are you asking those who don't live in Sacto, . But it's not regonalized to say Ohio only, so Those who ARE in Sacramento and read these message boards will see the question.

Nope haven't tried the yellow pages, couldn't sleep and wanted to know tonight, * It was 1 am when I asked* not tomorrow.

Course in the morning when businesses are open, I'll be asking my DR, about the chiro part, and maybe a masage business or two, but at 1 am why not ask online. Someone may just know.

As far as being over weight, I've been over weight for years, some years more weight than others.

Being fat isn't all of a sudden after years of being fat,  and years of sleeping in the same position and the same way  with the same kind of pillows while fat, going to cause neck stiffness and middle of the blade pain.

It seems you were not overrun with Sacramento residents eager to respond at 1am. You could have Googled your question and brought up the info in that manner.

Obviously all the other Sacto Residents have the sense enough to either be sound asleep at this time in the morning* now 3 am* Or if they're awake they're doing something fun, and not being awake, because they couldn't relax in bed and get comfy and there for got annoyed and got up, hehehe. Yes this statement was in jest and in fun.

True, though sometimes google returns more junk than actual hits sometimes, and it's frustrating, but sometimes it's fun to type in random and wacky things, like male strap ons, for instance and see what falls out.

yeah...gonna have to second this. This isn't really the ideal place for trying to find medical practitioners in your area. Actually, there are websites dedicated to just that, many of which are available via google :)

CalifChick -> RE: Are there any massage therapists in Sacto, that in price range about 40 to 50 dollars stead of (1/22/2009 8:08:49 AM)

IIRC, you have Medicare as your primary insurance.  You can call the number on your Medicare card (or drop me a note on the other side if your card is too faded to see the phone number) and ask them for names of providers in your area.

NHIC was the company that ran the medicare contract in northern California until last summer; they had a full provider directory on their website.  NHIC lost the contract to a company called Palmetto GBA out of Georgia (yes, a company in Georgia handles Medicare for northern California), and their website is crap, and they don't have the same features.

You can go to the general Medicare website, CLICK HERE, and search on the nationwide provider directory.

Google is your friend, YHMA.  Tons of stuff came up when I did a search.  Massage Envy starts at $49.  www.massageenvy.com

For some reason, my embedded link to the national provider directory isn't embedding...

Go to this page:  http://www.medicare.gov/

Halfway down the page, you will see a heading that says SEARCH TOOLS.  The fourth item in the list under that is FIND A DOCTOR OR OTHER PROVIDER.  Click on that.

You could try contacting one or more of the massage training schools and see if you could get a reduced rate by having one of their students do it.

I was going to recommend Massage Envy as well.  I haven't tried it, but a friend of mine did and was very pleased.  it's like a no-frills massage chain.

Mmmmmmmmmwah, big emoticon kisses for you NV, I went and they were awsome, and they have a wellness massage plan, and any massages outside the monthly zones are reduced price.

IT was so cozy and nice, I was greeted and offered tea, and after the massage, she waited outside for me and had water with her.

What did you type in, so I know along the lines of what to look for next time myself?

I'm glad you had a great experience.  I've never been there since my cousin is a certified massage therapist and I get 'em for free :)

I queried "sacramento massage rates."

You might also want to try switching pillows.  It does not matter if you've been using feather since you were a child.
What matters today is it is bothering you.  If you don't have pain you won't have to worry about paying for massages in the future.

I luuurve massage envy, I pay for a couples massage every once in a while for C and I when he gets stressed out over work.

cjan -> RE: Are there any massage therapists in Sacto, that in price range about 40 to 50 dollars stead of (1/23/2009 7:40:35 AM)

I hate to say this, because I am as ambiguous about Massage Envy as I am about WalMart. On the one hand, they do provide massage service that can be beneficial and enjoyable ( depends on who you get for a therapist, of course ), on the other, they tend to hire ( generally ) relatively inexperienced therapists, pay them little, overwork them and then discard them after they've hurt themselves, due to overwork, or burn out. However, they do provide a service needed by many who otherwise wouldn't be able to afford massage.

As a massage therapist, I have a sliding scale for my private practice clients.  If I have to travel to them, I have to charge more for obvious reasons. If they are willing to come to me, I can charge less. Further, if they are willing to commit to and pre-pay for a number of massages ( as you must do at Massage Envy), I'm perfectly happy to give an additional discount. Many therapists that I know are happy to make such price adjustments in the hope of making massage therapy more available to more people while still being able to make a living and stay healthy ourselves.

windchymes -> RE: Are there any massage therapists in Sacto, that in price range about 40 to 50 dollars stead of (1/23/2009 7:58:50 AM)

I agree with going to a massage school.  They offer greatly reduced rates.  One here in Northern Virginia does a one-hour, full-body massage for $35.

As far as the pillows....if you can, bunch them up at the bottom so that they make a big wad or sort of roll and sleep with your neck on that roll, so it is supported.  The roll is supporting your neck, and your head will be a little bit lower on the rest of the pillow.  I'm not saying make the entire pillow into a roll, just moosh up the bottom part.  You need to keep your neck and spine in as straight a horizontal line as possible.  If your head is tilted up on the pillows, making an angle of your neck and spine, your muscles will go into spasms trying to both support you and get back to a normal straight position.  Either search online or in stores or a chiropractor's office and look at the "orthopedic" or "therapeutic" pillows shapes.  Try to make your feather pillows look like them as much as possible.  It's not a 100% cure because sometimes the pillows will move during the night, but overall, it should improve your problem greatly.  It works great for me, been doing it for years.

The other thing you maybe doing which is horrible for the neck and shoulders, never watch tv lying on your side with your head on pillows.  You might as well drive a knife in the side of your neck if you do that.

Since you do have Medicare, I recommend finding a chiropractor in your area who accepts Medicare assignment and go to him.  The one I"ve been seeing for 3 months has done absolute wonders for my neck and shoulders.

YourhandMyAss -> RE: Are there any massage therapists in Sacto, that in price range about 40 to 50 dollars stead of (1/23/2009 8:06:03 AM)

That is EXACTLY, how I watch Tv. It's the only way I know how. Sitting up in bed isn't comfortable nor cozy, and we only have the bed in here.

Sometimes I do realize that my neck is craining, when I lay that way, but not usually.

How else do you recommend watching TV?

I went to a Chiro once, I went for what the doctor thought was sciatica, and  went many many times and each time he made me hurt worse for days and days after going, i dreaded going, plus he laid me out on my stomach and put the electroes and heat onto my back, and then left for like 25 minutes and didn't check back untill he was coming to work on you, and sometimes I was beginning not to be able to breath, cause I am to heavy to lay on my stomach flat to long.

Now I realize, not all Chiro's will be the same, I've just never considered one till recently, because of that experince.

Well, I'd still want massages, since it's so devine to be touched in those ways, but you're right I wouldn't have to worry about getting them because I am in pain [:D]
