I have been looking to add a new firearm to my collection, and am considering the J.P Sauar and sons model 202 take down safari rifle.

The firearm can be fitted with different barrels and bolts to allow for an change in caliber.

For the price quoted, I can get the basic rifle, and a second barrel and bolt in .577 Nitro Express (elephant/elk/ really fucking big bear) round.

Oh, and the rifle can be taken down and carried in a custom suit case, i.e typical Hollywood sniper rifle.

Jeff....what do you plan to do with all that fire power? Seriously...that is alot of money for a rifle that you probably do not need.
Not only that...but the kick on that puppy might toss you into the next county.

Ah well. It'll be good insurance when the rhinos come stampeding through your house! [:D]

I'm not much of a gun collecter, I just have a couple for hunting deer, fowl and a few handguns.

What is so special about these guns, besides being able to take down any Water Buffalo wandering into your backyard?

I guess only you know if the price is worth it to you.

Buy it. Your getting a bargin. Thats not really a high price for a rifle like that. My favorite is my 45/70. It is big enough to take down anything. I can even shoot black powder with it. I had custom made BP ammo for it. During the winter I take my guns to Outdoor World and use their indoor range.

If you've got the money to spend and it is something that you really want then why not?

Enjoy,

I'd buy it.  It's a good deal because you get three rifles in one with the package you're buying.

My only experience with the J. P. Sauar & Sons rifles was with a bolt action .22 I bought at an auction in Germany. It was 1969, rifle was brand new and I paid $25 for it. BUT, from the way you describe it it sure sounds like a great deal. I would need to see [and handle] it for a final decision but I would say "go for it".[sm=applause.gif][sm=applause.gif]

Would sure love to be at the range the first time you lock and load a .577 rd and take it for a test drive.[sm=danger.gif][sm=danger.gif][sm=anger.gif][sm=line.gif][sm=line.gif]

I have fired a 577 before, as well as a 45/120 buffalo rifle, 58 caliber 3 band enfeild, and a .50 barrett.

The Sauars are fantastic weapons and at that price you're getting a helluva bargain.

So sayeth the supposed gun-nut, just because I grew up hunting and shooting. It pissed my ex off to no end that I could outshoot him any day of the week.

What is first barrel .243, .300, .458 ?  Model 202’s . . . page full for sale (click for link) From a $1,400.00 to $10,000.00 seems to be the price range.

Looks like a great rifle that is easy to transport and comes in so many flexible configurations and calibers, it seems more than well worth the money.  I have readily paid more for a Steyr Mannlicher (click for link) .300 Winchester and was thrilled with it.

The gun shop set up the scope so I took it to the range to test it.  The first shot went right where I put it.  However, the next shots seemed to be off the target paper.  I figured I jolted the scope out of alignment somehow.  I asked my girl to look at the dirt embankment behind the target stand so I could know if it was off to the left or right.  She said they were tagging the dirt just behind the target and it must be tracking just off so closely, she couldn’t tell which side.  She thought maybe it was going under.

After a dozen shots or so, someone sounded the bell and I went to put up fresh paper . . . my jaw dropped when I got close.   At 125 yards, it keyholed every shot so tightly, we couldn’t tell through the spotter’s scopes.

It was my friends story about high powered rifle hunting that got me add the Mannlicher to my collection.  He told me how he leaned his gun against the fence of a corn field so he could climb over.  On top of the fence he spotted a nice buck in the field, pulled his gun up and fired.  The kick back knocked him off the fence and when he got back up, the buck was gone.  He was sure he a good bead on it and went over to where it was to start tracking it.  . . . there it laid, dead in the spot he shot it.

No, I don’t think it is crazy to buy a nice rifle, no matter what the price.

Well, if things work out, this will be a late christmas gift from my brother in law.

I kind of bought him a new laptop and gps unit for xmas this year.

Screw that, get a .30-30 and you can still take anything that walks in North America, plus you will save cash for the increasing ammo prices.
