The Autorun  vulnerability in Windows is well known. But US-CERT has announced that Microsoft's instructions on turning off Autorun don't solve the problem. The flaw in Microsoft's recommend fix is critical. The "Downadup" worm has reportedly already compromised more computers than any other exploit in years, and can spread through USB devices.

The US-CERT Alert is here

A detailed fix for the issue is here

Uh-oh, more problems with Windows!  Say it isn't so.

Thanks for the head's up, Kirata.

To be fair, the "problem" in this case is not an Internet security hole, but rather the Windows feature of when you pop in a CD/DVD, your favorite game or movie or program installation starts up automatically.  Convenient, and certainly not a design flaw per se.

This worm exploits that feature, if you happen to put in an infected CD, flash drive, digital picture frame, etc.

Slight loss of convenience to lose that feature, but minor considering that 9 million PCs have been infected to date.

I don't like auto-anything.
