I have always considered Pansexual as person(s) playing and or having sex with all genders..

In defining a -group- as pansexual, it means that the group does not limit membership because of gender, sexual orientation, or sexual expression. "Pansexual" is used in other communites besides the BDSM community. It comes up a lot in alternative-spirituality communities and in things like "intentional community" organizations as well.

To my understanding, it means you have sex with all genders and orientations (like others have already stated).

I am guessing that the term "pansexual" derived from the god Pan who was associated with the god of wine and fertility, Bacchus (Roman name) and Dionysus (Greek name). Festivities that celebrated him included massive orgies.

I could be wrong, but just guessing.

~fast Reply~

Actually the root of the prefix (pan) simply means 'All' in greek As far as I can tell the term (pansexual) was coined in the 1920s.

In a personal aspect, people (that I've met) who identify as pansexual are usually attracted to... whatever they're attracted to. They're not necessarily attracted to any specific gender as a whole or part. It's just not in their criteria at all for sexual attraction. *shrug*

It doesn't necessarily follow the actual definition to the letter... but it's what they usually use since they're not technically bisexual (or homosexual, or heterosexual).

"don't beleive in a binary gender system" ???

You mean there's a 3rd option?
(and I'm not counting shemales/TG's)

Yes, there are more than just 2 options!  And more than three, as well!  I'm curious why you're not counting shemales and Transgendered people?  How do these people not count???

IMO, you need to learn a bit more in this area.  There's a wide choice of wonderful variations on gender that brighten our society and help us break out of stereotypes and prejudice.

I believe keeping an open mind enables us to embrace the diversity presented in our society.  If everyone kept themselves open to differences, I wouldn't have to keep this area of my life sooo private.  I would love to be fully accepted just as I am and be open to all the world about the many facets of my personality.

I'm concerned that your definition excludes celibate pansexuals.

I agree, Noah

I also wouldn't call pansexuals bisexual *at all* since it's a whole different ball game, entirely.

EDIT: One little word adds so much more clarity

I'm straight and monogamous and belong to a pansexual organization and attend pansexual events.
