Say what you're proud of, and  why it's so unusual for you to have done, so therefor you're proud If you want to, say why you don't think most people would find it something to be proud of.

This thread is supposed to be a positive thread, to help people be proud of their accomplishments, please no flames, no baiting and no rudeness.  and no out an out hijacking. If there's someone you don't like please refrain from posting just to taunt them.I know my request will probably be ignored, but honestly PLEASE, since there's other threads to go be mean and rude and petty in, or to hijack.

I will start. I am proud of being offered the chance to come help someone out, and I did so well at my tasks* they say* they were very happy with my help.

I am proud of this, because, I am usually just very hermit-y, very inactive,  and I am proud because to do this,  it was the most work I've done in quite a while, and since I have back injuries hard work is kind of difficult for me and the most time I have ever spent outside my home for non medical or school reasons in a long time.

Most people would say big fucking whoop, because to them activity and going out into the world, is an everyday common thing to them, and so there for not very special or anything to be particularly proud over.

Hello there YHMA,

I grew up in foster care and was carted from home to home and so many things changed on a regular basis.  I have maintained a few relationships for my entire adult life, and that alone is an accomplishment.  Being able to be a real friend to people and not run away from the hard times (like had been the model while I was growing up).  So, yes, just being a friend is an accomplishment in my world.

What a great idea for a thread.

well wishes,
sunshine

Thank you sunshine, after some of the negativity, and stuff this morning, and then someone else telling me to be proud of my acomplishments, even how silly others may think it is. I wanted to give other people the chance to be proud to.

Having friends to me is an acomplishment too, since I am so reclusive and hermity, and sometimes in the past I've alienated people with my attempts to be friendly, that they found to be , being a pest, only instead of telling me I was a pest, they went and complained to the group mods I was bothering them and making them uncomfy, So I had no idea my overtures of friendship were bothering any one.

I think it is the adults my kids turned out to be.

We had a rocky start together. At age 16, I was just too young to be a mother but I was, then again at age 18. We did alot of growing up together and I made one hell of alot of mistakes. Yet we managed to not only survive it but also thrive.

Also, growing up dirt poor. Not getting a formal education. Somewhere along the way, a few special people taught me I didn't have to stay poor and ignorant. Life really is exactly what you make it. Mine is pretty damned awesome. At least to me...

YHMA,

Great thread idea! It was nice for you to help someone else out and that they appreciated it! Good for you!

Something I'm proud of - being there for someone when they were having trouble.

I'm proud that I finally went & did something about the things that have sent me into seclusion & depression lately.  True, my sister told me to go do it & she kinda raised me so I'm used to doing what she tells me to do.  But she didn't get me dressed & drive me there & she didn't put the words in my mouth to get the help that I needed.  So I'm proud of that accomplishment.

I'm also proud that at the end of this job run, I finally figured out how to do one piece of it well.  It was funny though when I told my boss about what I had learned & how I had learned it she got that , "big deal, anybody should know how to do that" look on her face & I just flashed her a big grin!!!!!

I'm proud that I've worked two jobs for the past two years and haven't gone crazy from it.  Yet.

I'm proud that I finally made the change from a college where I was not able to succeed to one where I am.

It may be a 'step down' comparatively, but the classes are harder, and I enjoy them more... not to mention I'm... really good at them. I'm proud that I was able to recognize that I wasn't a fit at my old school... but moreso that I finally acted on that knowledge (it's my fourth year, now... and I noticed that in my second).

Most people would find it silly, or stupid (actually, most of my friends don't really understand it). My mom, at least, knows what a big accomplishment it was for me... so I'm pretty well put up about it, too. :)

I'm good at being a mom, and my children are healthy and happy.

edited to add:  if you'd ever met my immediate family, you'd know why I'm so proud of myself

Living like an average 19 year old. That is, going to university, keeping in touch with my friends, having a job (well I'm jobless at the moment but that's because I'm going away for most of February and will have a lot of catch-up work in school. But I was doing pretty good with going to school + working + having a social life).

I was depressed for a long time and suffered from PTSD, so I found it extremely hard to live normally. I was diagnosed with PTSD when I was 13, and it was at that age along with when I was 17/18 that I really hit my low points. I skipped over a month of school in grade 12, locked myself in my room for a portion of 2008, etc. I couldn't face the world. But last summer something clicked and I realized I had to force myself to do something. So I applied to one of the universities here, got in, and did a summer English course. My instructor helped me escape my black hole more than he'll ever know. One day I was talking to one of my classmates and poked fun at myself by calling myself "stupid" and he pulled me aside after class and told me I was not stupid, that I had a true talent for writing, and that I had many original ideas. I got out of that class with an A (pretty amazing considering what my grades in high school were like) and with a full page of advice on how to improve my writing throughout university. (By the way, I'm not pursuing English, but writing skills are a good thing to have no matter what... especially if you want to go to grad school.) I'm kind of going off on a tangent, but it was with his confidence that I finally started to pick myself up. I realized that I could get good grades again and that I wasn't some kind of freak. I contacted some of my old friends from high school and started hanging out with them again and got a job and befriended a lot of people at my workplace. My confidence shot up. So even though on the outside I'm just a normal 19 year old who worries about her grades and likes to go to the movies with her friends, I'm a hell of a lot different from who I used to be.

I am proud of finishing beauty school.  Not to mention the fact that it was EASY for me to do.  I don't ever finish anything that I start.  So for me to actually finish, and get a certifiate saying that I averaged over 90% in both academics, and attendence.  I know, people probably think "So what?  It was a 9 month course, that you finished in 10 months.  How hard is it to cut someone's hair?"  Well, 1) there's a lot more to it, 2) For me to get up at 7am every morning after going to bed usually after 3am (because my boyfriend worked second shift, and didn't like to go to bed at a decent hour, and would get mad at me if I didn't stay up), and taking care of a 2 year old, doing my homework, studying, and just trying to keep the peace, it was a VERY big deal.  My grandmother looked at me one day and said "I'm proud of you.  I didn't think you would finish."  That hurt me, but at the same time, she was being honest, and I didn't think I would actually finish either. That's just one.  I will get back to more.  I am becoming prouder and prouder of myself lately.

There's so much more for me to be proud of by everyone else around me.......However, since that wasn't the question posted in this thread......
1. i'm proud that i've been sober for 12 years and 11 1/2 months.
2. i'm proud that i have not  physically harmed myself in years.
3. i'm proud that i've not even considered suicide seriously since my previous major attempt 4 1/2 years ago
4. i'm proud that i'm in a healthy, mutually supportive relationship.
5. i'm proud that despite barely graduating high school, i graduated with my masters degree with honors.
6. i'm proud of the fact that my sister's children love, respect, and adore me.
7. i'm proud of the fact that while my father was dying i treated him with more grace, dignity, and respect than he treated me with my entire life.
8. i'm proud of the fact that as my father was struggling to live/die i told him i forgave him and prayed for my higher power to allow him to rest peacefully.
