BitaTruble -> RE: That thing called power... (1/29/2009 2:29:18 AM)

~FR~ There are way too many excellent posts here to respond to them all, but I wanted to touch on one of the things that struck me in something that KoM wrote about different kinds of power. Certainly, there are men 'of' power. Donald Trump comes to mind. Whether he became a man of power through diligence, ambition or even ruthless ambition doesn't matter so much to me. That sort of power does nothing for me. It's not the 'it' factor that drops me to my knees. Granted (and someone did point this out all ready) that 'it' factor is subjective and what I may perceive it to be might not be what how someone else sees it, but, personally, I didn't grant Michael any power. The fact that I saw such in him, that a look from him was all it took is what makes me want to serve him, sometimes worship him and submit to his will for so many years. Truly, I don't know where he got that sort of power over me .. might be the 'thing' I have for men from New York, especially the Bronx .. but I can't deny it's substantial influence on me. It's not just the 'it' factor that I see in him.. it's a whole combination of things. His street smarts coupled with academic brillance, his unselfish and generous nature, his mean expertise with a whip, his devotion as a father .. the list would go on for days, but it's the 'it' factor which first captured my attention and allowed me to discover all the other wonderful things about him and it's the 'it' factor that makes the flaws shrink and become insignificant in our lives together. I hear MerryMischief2 waking up and it's time to go site-seeing, so obrigada (thank you in Portuguese!) for the wonderful contributions to the thread.
