Status: offline 		Ok, when you buy new clothes do you wash them before you wear them or do you just put them away and wear them whenever without washing?

Me, I have to wash everything before I wear it, my wife either hangs her clothes or puts them away and wears them whenever.

We both think the other is nuts

Status: offline 		I dont wash things, but then I tend to wear a lot of cotten stuff so there isnt much risk of colour transfer onto layers etc. I love the feel of brand new clothes (especially socks) it would be a crying shame to wash them before being able to feel them

Me those things have come all the way from China, god knows who or what has been on them, or even in the store who has touched them.   This is the only thing where I'm a germ/dirt  freak.

Status: offline 		I do a lot of my shopping online, so the things are packaged, in stock, and they were never out on a rack somewhere.  But things in stores that other people have possibly tried on, such as shirts and pants, I wash first.

Status: offline 		As a rule, I wouldn't wash new clothes before wearing, but I generally don't wear more than one layer of shirts.  I also eat dropped food, as I believe that ingesting a little dirt and germs helps stimulate and bolster my immune system.  A friend told me that with regard to raising her children, so I adopted it.

Status: offline 		I would wash them PERIOD! Many other people have tried those clothes on. You don't know what they have. I guess it makes me paranoid but i would rather be safe than sorry. I just don't want to be wearing somebody else's dander etc.
Things in packages..No..they wouldn't be worn by somebody else.

Once when we traveled for a wedding, I forgot to pack a shirt for my suit, and after we bought one I insisted we find a public laundry so I could wash it before I wore it.  I can't explain what a great time that was. 

In the end the couple got divorced not long after, so perhaps a unwashed shirt would have been correct to wear

I'm the same way. All undergarments get washed before I wear them.

Status: offline 		I rarely buy anything off the rack; most of my clothes are purchased online.  Off the rack stuff and undergarments are washed.

Status: offline 		I prefer to wash everything before wearing. For one to make sure its clean and secondly, it softens up the fabric and makes it more comfy. I hate stiff feeling fabric.

Status: offline 		briefs, jeans etc certainly...I don't have my suits dry cleaned before I wear them nor my dress slacks but, I do have my shirts laundered...so, I guess some things yes....some things no.

Not because of dirt and germs, but because of chemical treatments often used on textiles before shipping. Stuff to make them look crisp on the rack, or when taken out of the packing, stuff to discourage/kill pests like moths who could do damage to the merchandise during transport, excess dye and textile finishings.
All things I would rather not have on my and my families skin.

I wash everything I buy before wearing, and this is exactly the reason.  I've worn new clothes straight out of the package or off the rack, and I've broken out in rashes because of chemical treatments.  When I buy new shoes, I always spray some disinfectant in them before I wear them.

Status: offline 		New clothes, nope I don't wash them, my reasoning is they look as good as they did when I bought them, if I wash them , there is a strong chance they will never look the same again.

Second hand clothes, namely my leather stuff, some silk and velvet, well leather I can't wash, so I am stuffed there, the silk maybe it will get a wash, but the velvet goes odd when I wash it. What I tend to do is employ the sniff test, if it smells like it has been washed, I generally just wear it. The leather, well, all the stuff I have managed to get so far, there is the smell of dry cleaning about it, either that or the leather smell, nothing untoward, so I just wear it and that is that, my moisture can add to the previous owner's moisture and help the leather.

Anyone ever noticed that when you perspire heavily in leather, it gives off such a lovely earthy aroma ?
