A dom is a man who takes responsibility for his own life and possibly others. He's a leader, even if he leads only himself. He's a person others look up to. He understand power and control and uses it wisely.

A dom is not someone who brutalizes or misuses power or authority.

ALAstella -> RE: Define Dom (1/27/2009 6:23:40 AM)

I'm sorry but I don't subscribe to behaviourism.

A dom is someone who identifies themself as such according to their own criteria whilst remaining an individual example of a human being.

DarkSteven -> RE: Define Dom (1/27/2009 6:58:51 AM)

I agree about exploitation of a sub by a Dom.  But it works both ways.  Let me quote you from a local profile:

"Looking for a dominant man to provide for hi submissive, fiscally, structurally, mentally, sexually.  Think 1950s, traditional man/woman role scenario.

Open to most if not all bdsm/sm but need a man truly looking for marriage, and a serious d/s relationship."

Main objective: ...is to find a serious ltr d/s relationship as soon as possible.  I need it in my life 24/7 just like you do..."

So there are alleged "subs" who leech off Doms as well.

using fast reply.........

As someone else has already said. Dominant people dominate. That does not make them all that special and it certainly does not make them a better person. Just a dominant one. Which is why I do see a big difference between D/s and M/s.

Much like anyone can be submissive. No one has to be kinky to be either. No one has to be special, more wonderful, responsible, anything. Just a difference in personality.

To me, it is how you define it, what your interests are, and how you live your life that makes it M/s rather than D/s. Just my take on it, like it or not.

Mercnbeth -> RE: Define Dom (1/27/2009 7:53:32 AM)

this slave agrees with what LaTigresse said about it being:
quote:

...Just a difference in personality...
the dominant individuals this slave has encountered all have one thing in common and doesn't have anything to do with their gender or manners.

some are successfull...others aren't
some are polite and passive...others rude and aggressive
some are criminals...some respect the law of their society
some take care of their responsibilities and some don't
some are trustworthy...some aren't
some are tall...some are short
etc....ad infinitum

the label of Dom, in this slave's experience, doesn't just apply to Men, or even Gentlemen, for that matter...or even to folks this slave would find compatible/nice/hot/responsible/trustworthy/fun to be around.

LPslittleclip -> RE: Define Dom (1/27/2009 5:28:56 PM)

my Dominant chose to be called M'Lady to differentiate Herself from all of the others. i identify with the role/ title of submissive and She with the role/title of Dominant. that is all neither of U/us are perfect but W/we do very well being happy and helping others as W/we can. as far as the labels i vote that they be tossed out and start over. we would be far better off in my opinion without all of them and just try to be happy
