Coporate Greed and City corruption has killed Detroit.  Detroit needs a whole new administration from the top to the bottom. If you want to see what it is like to live in a depression come to Detroit.

The US Government is now 'owner' of Detroit, buying the stock with tax money or borrowed from unborn children. That "killed" any motivation. Why succeed when failing generates hundreds of millions of government bail funds without accountability? Succeed and you have to PAY taxes not receive them.

I expect their reaction will be like mine, should I ever get on the funding failure gravy-train; "Sure - make any regulation you want! We'll make it happen! PS - SEND MORE MONEY!"

The way I see it is that he's kissing up to everyone the first few days in office... I mean he is a big kiss ass. As far as Detroit is concerned they kind of deserve it.  I wouldnt buy an American car because they really suck. They were way to greedy and protective of change and now well.... America needs new car companies that look to the people to see what it is they are buying and what it is that they want... right now Detroit just shoves the shit at us.... fortunatly we dont have to choose them.  When I was a teen I worked in a sweater mill.  My first day on the job I sat down in the breakroom and a guy looked at me and said 'get out!' I'm WTF. He explained his answer and so I quit within a couple of days.  They closed the place down a year later and I did not shed any tears... Glad those Mexicans are doing such a great job...LOL.

Let me see if I got thgis straight.Posters who were of the opinion that Detroit should not be bailed out due to their failed methods,now bitch when someone tries to impose some regulations on them.....okay got it.

  If Detroit had been FORWARD-thinking and looked to what people wanted and what they would pay for to drive a greener car, they wouldn't be in the fix they are in. They could have maunfactured greener cars w lower emissions and better gas milage and people would buy them (Insight or Prius, anyone?).

That`s the pro bad faith big business/pro status quo/pro old fucked up way of doing business POV.

It`s a main topic on righty-wingy wacky-wadio right now.As well ,the neo-cons are presently busy trying to kill the stimulus package.


What these folks don`t know or want to acknowledge is that this is the start of a new economy,....green cars,trucks,buses and trains.It`s also the start of development on other green jobs like making solar panels and other energy saving products and technologies.

The neo-cons are going to resist this,call it names,besmirch it and deride it and try to kill it.

But it`s the new green economy that is going to lift us out of the recession/depression they caused.

Well in that case perhaps you might want to acknowledge that LaTigrese took to task greedy union workers trying to get wealthy at blue collar jobs.No mention at all about greedy workers fighting for a fair and decent wage ....just sayin.

Decent wages are different than over paid. When someone standing or sitting in an ergonomically correct work station running an ergonomically correct tool, and can miss 100+ days of work a year and not get fired, and is making 3 times more than a teacher. Not to mention have way better benefits. Then yes, they are greedy bastards that are looking for more money than they are worth.

Sorry, you will soooo not sell me a sob story on union employees in this country. I've seen far too much to buy to that pitch. Far too much.

As far as I am concerned, they priced themselves out of a job and are now reaping what they sowed.

To remain competitive in the marketplace Detroit is going to have to retool and retrain their people anyways.  It makes far more sense to redesign their product line and make the necessary changes at the same time rather than having to do this all over again...with more tax dollars.

i was just wondering, cause i not so long ago mentioned/posted just what you posted here about the union being partly responsible for the downfall of detroit and i was pummelled by angry liberal posters for it.  i felt that detroit should not be bailed out with taxpayer money.  i truly believe that bankruptcy and restructuring (which included new & more reasonable contracts with the unions) was and is the answer to the car company woes.

all these bailouts and stimulus plans are occuring because of greed and what you call viral materialism!  so why not stop it all now!  take our medicine and suffer the damn recession/depression.  why postpone the pain for future generations to suffer.  why should our children and our children's children pay for our friggin mistakes!  the stimulus plan is full of hurt for our country's future which includes the US automobile companies.

Sanity,  17 states sued and lost to the fed to have better emissions then the fed.

as someone who breaths and lives on a busy street- this is a good thing.  the health of the auto industry isnt a factor. these lawsuits- which would not have happened if there was state rights- occurred during the boom years. 

in 1973 energy embargo- we as a country were warned to get it together.

the auto industry killed the trolly systems in the 20s.   they killed the electric car.

be that as it may- no one has the right to toxic the air that I breath, and especially air that seaps into my home.
