2. What is Gorean?

3. What is Leather Community?

She's only been on the site for 27 days, so imho, deserves a break.  i've always been told that a) there's no such thing as a stupid question, and b) if you don't know something ask.

In basic terms... Old Guard and Leather have similar links in that they are predominatly refering to gay leather community.  Although these days, leather community incorporates all orientations.  At it's most basic it's leather wearing high protocol grouping and families.
Old Guard referes to latepost war gay biker culture and you will find very few original Old Guard around, although you will get people who claim to be old guard trained.  This is like a calling card/acceptability thing and I usually find most people who make that claim have pretty much nil knowledge of what Old Guard is.  You might say that the leather community is an extention/continuation of Old Guard.
Gor is based on the ideas in a series of books by John Norman.  Most goreans I know do not identify as BDSMers as for them, Gorean is more an identity and whole ethos, rather than anything else.  There is a gorean forum here and you might want to check it out.  It can get heated debates there but don't be put off as there are some pretty cool practitioners of gor around.
 
If I made a mistake I am sure someone will correct me as I am not an authority on these three, but at least its a start.  If you want to look up Gor, try the forum or Google John Norman and for the Old Guard, I believe Jack Rinella and Jay Wiseman had some good articles so you could google those names as well.

yay!! Thanks for the definitions, the.dark.  i have a basic knowledge to know what the 3 groups are, but not enough to attempt to define them for someone. :)

i actually did answer her question the best way i could, not knowing much about any of her questions, i directed her to just some of the discussions that have taken place on here before. Nice part was, i learned a lot reading through them too.

i think  i get it but still don't understand Gorean.  Wiki is of no help.

Most of the local libraries (that I have gone to) carry some if not all of Norman's books. I'd suggest borrowing some and reading them.

He's not the greatest writer as he tends to go over and over and over the same thing time and time again but his philosophy is intersting.

In my opinion that is the best way to learn about gor.

That said.... the books are a fantasy based setting so, those that identify as gorean have altered the stuff needed to make the fantasy become reality. (Here on earth you can't just grab a female and make them your slave and then kill them if you don't find them pleasing hehe)

For the Gorean families that I know personally, they base their life on what John based the foundation of his books on.

Honor
Integrity
Men are ultimately Dominant
women are utimately submissive.

Yes there are male subs (not overly looked on well alot) and there are Dominant women, but according to the books all women are basically slaves. In the books there are a race or group of women that are all Dominant.

I could go on and on and on but really, go grab one of the books and you'll get the idea. If not at your library they have them on ebay at times and amazon.com carries them as well.

Hope that helped alittle bit.

Oh.... don't confuse the online roleplaying gorean rooms for the same as people that run their lives and households on a gorean basis.

The one thing i really liked about gor myself was the structure. But again the structure is only as stingent as the Master running the home.
