mistoferin -> Multi tasker or methodical? (1/11/2006 10:33:57 AM)

I am one of those kinds of people that operates best when I have about 10 irons in the fire. It seems to keep my energy levels up and my mind busy and focused. Now I have a submissive girlfriend of mine who does things methodically and meticulously....one thing at a time. If you throw more than one thing at her she becomes quickly frustrated.

Now while I have heard Dominants say to me...."My gosh, do you ever just sit still?", or "You know, you don't have to do it all at once.", she gets comments from her Dominant like "Why can't you manage your tasks more effectively?.

Now I must say, I don't think that being one way is any better than the other. We are both very efficient people who manage to get all of the things done in a the time frame we have to work with. We just go about doing them differently.

So, are you a multi tasker or do you like to attack each task individually....and if so what kind of positive or negative impact do you think it has on your D/s or M/s relationship?

Multi task!

The good: Things get done

The bad: Need regular reminders to relax and ramp down the pace when appropriate

Littlepita -> RE: Multi tasker or methodical? (1/11/2006 11:05:34 AM)

I am a procrastinator multi-tasker. I always have a ton of stuff to do that sometimes I get so overwhelmed I end up doing nothing. I do work best under pressure and with deadlines. My Dom knows this about me and promises to work on my procrastination to make me more efficient.

xxblushesxx -> RE: Multi tasker or methodical? (1/11/2006 12:37:26 PM)

I am the exact same way. And I totally understand about having so much to do you do nothing. Some people call it laziness, when (for me) what it actually is, is perfectionism....if I can't do it perfectly, then, I don't want to do it at all...(I have a friend who is the same way. It was a relief to meet someone who 'got it')

Mostly right brained (creative) so, lots of that methodicalness is lacking in me....

Let me know if he teaches you how not to be a procrastinating multi-tasker...maybe you could give me some tips.

Oh, and I agree, a deadline is what pushes me to complete something.

DesertRat -> RE: Multi tasker or methodical? (1/11/2006 12:43:45 PM)

I'm the focused, linear, methodical type, but I can do some multitasking when necessary. The multi-channel types used to drive me nuts till I learned that my way is not the only way to do something. I'm a lot more open minded now, but I don't feel a need to change my basic nature since it works fine....for me.

As for the second part of the question: The effect it has on relationships is that I will stay with a problem till some progress is made toward resolution. Note, I said "till progress is made". I will not worry and gnaw on something to no good end. Sometimes things need to take their own course, and I am not one to rush or force-fit a half-assed solution. I do not, however, let problems fade off into oblivion. I deal with things.

If you have a mixed relationship, meaning you have someone who multitasks and someone who doesn't, the tasks need to be prioritized. This is so that the important stuff gets done in a timely manner or first, depending on how you look at it.

KnightofMists -> RE: Multi tasker or methodical? (1/11/2006 12:55:29 PM)

a multi-tasker for sure.... But interestly, when I focus on a particular task to get done, I get a greater feeling of accomplishment than completing a number of things that I have been working on in a multi-tasking manner. So, I think I multi-task out of natural tendency mostly as well as focusing requires actually greater effort and time on my part, which is in short supply sometimes.

truesub4u -> RE: Multi tasker or methodical? (1/11/2006 12:57:13 PM)

I'm a big time procrastinator. I will put things off till I just can't stand it any longer. Bar the door i'm on a roll. This drives my kids nuts..... LOL And like a few others once I start, I demmand prefection. And won't settle for nothing less.

MHOO314 -> RE: Multi tasker or methodical? (1/11/2006 1:00:31 PM)

I am laughing at this as I just came back from a lunch with My manager, a team mate and My unmentionable and one of the topics of conversation was "styles"---it was good for My unmentionable to hear that I am like this with everyon----LOL---My style is many things at one time, managed successfully, completed thoroughly and ontime-- when I hear an issue-- I am at the decision and resolution before the issue has been totally explained---(yeah and a high IQ--egads...)-I work from a journal of to do's and notes and think in flow charts----My unmentionable is methodic--one task at a time, completed then the next task--when she is overwhelmed with too many tasks or verbal stimuli--she brings down the door---way different styles--so I have to everyday remember that--she is extremely bright--its not that, but she cannot take multiple and conflicting stimuli and process it quickly--so it causes conflict sometimes--now as for a submissive--I needed to take My style into consideration--MAJOR

procrastination for Me is a hard limit--one task at a time for My life would make Me crazy if he was taking over My myriad of to do's---with the new boy, we will see, but I think he is a blend---he sets out each day with a series of tasks--and does well at getting them done, but every once in awhile ( and by his admission)--he gets absorbed in one task out of the list--that is where I feel I can help him--if it isnt the time for fixation--I will bump him along, if I need the fixation, I can have him focus on that--but I will hold the over all master list of tasks for completion--

however, it is a flaw of Mine that I can do it "better and faster" so I just do it Myself--he will I believe help Me grow even more in that area--

I'm an efficient multi tasker and I love the challenge of it. Nothing is neglected in the process, and I believe it actually enhances my relationships, as I'm able to pay attention to detail and respond accordingly. I'm quite the pragmatic type and don't feel as if I'm juggling at all..just getting things done. I do think I'd be bored having to stay with one task at a time.

LOL No doubt about it...I am a one at a time girl. My mind gets flustered if there is too much going on at once. Most just smile at me when I get like that though, never had any really bad feedback.

Multi-tasker

I do better when I am trying to do many things at once, as opposed to just doing one.

LadyCompassion -> RE: Multi tasker or methodical? (1/11/2006 2:32:29 PM)

I definitely like to do one thing, get it done, and move on to the next. But, I am fully capable of multi tasking when necessary.

jamesthehumanrug -> RE: Multi tasker or methodical? (1/11/2006 3:50:39 PM)

dear misto ferrin,
i know this sounds strange but, i multi-task once ,inside the bed; i can plan or incubate ideas better than anyplace else;
and, i still keep very focused on her ;the goddess;her every move ;approach; and ,i still memorize her way....ie: i make new songs for later melodies ,or come up with new magic chords refrains for later (maybe years later lyrics ie; i believe in love ripped and plagiarized by the ,ms.carley simon,who knew!?; only my best friend;dorothy,that's all),or i plan new wardrobe which to me is, just more sexual nonverbal communication;secondary skins;or i come up with brand new inventions;new interiors;etc.sometimes; i know shes gone ;and i still think of her intensily but; i sand the interior ;or keep it clean;
but, i do more multi tasking inside,and ,under her; (and ,always, FOR her )than not...if that makes any sense at all,
so now you know; what; i'm really doin' in there;
inside a couch; bed ;or whatever;" in the installation ";
i pronounce it ;stew ,as in 'instewlation',cause you ,also stew ,in there sometimes too...that part of it is all physical-reaction,tho....
I DONT THINK THE TOP MINDED, CAUSE THEN SHE KNOWS; I'LL ALWAYS BE ANXIOUS TO GO INSIDE ANYTIME ;ANY PLACE;NO PREP OR FOREPLAY NEEDED.

OscarHargraves -> RE: Multi tasker or methodical? (1/11/2006 9:56:19 PM)

I'm a little of both. There are times when I multi-task and revel in the buzz of activity around me. There are other times when I am very fixed and concentrate on one thing at a time. This is something I had to learn from my job when I spent years working with explosives. Focus there is what keeps you (and your friends) alive.

ZenrageTheKeeper -> RE: Multi tasker or methodical? (1/11/2006 10:06:51 PM)

Like Charles Emerson Winchester the Third, I do one thing at a time... I do it very well.. and then I move on.

yourMissTress -> RE: Multi tasker or methodical? (1/11/2006 10:12:54 PM)

While things that require thought and reflection require my complete and singular attention and concentration, I do perform at my best when I'm multitasking.

I am a mom, it's ingrained.

I by nature am a muli-tasker, I am one of those, as mentioned above,
creative types. Certain things can stop me in my tracks, that I feel I must tend to
at the moment, then back to what other 3 things I was doing.
I also though am able to concentrate and do something methodically when asked.

It all works for MsN, she is learning to understand how I do things and as long as things get done, there is no problems. If I get too scattered she ropes me in[:D].

I'm down with Bob.... I like to attack one task at a time, completely finishing it as fast and efficiently as possible....

The multi- task method is great if you have superior concentration and follow through, but I'd rather be able to say that I finished one job thoroughly and completely, then say that I'm half-way done with ten.

I'm definitely a multi-tasker, but I don't think it really has any bearing on my D/s relationship.
