So there is this big thread about how slaves can or can't have requirements. The general opinion of many slaves is that they do and must have requirements. I am curious about what some of those requirements really are. Do they need to have a high level of protocol, be really laid back, have incredible skills in S/M or B/D, be really tall, be monogamous or poly, or/and whatever else.

I know i have a list in my head of criteria for those i will submit comfortably to, play with, or be sexual with and i am wondering if any other slaves have a best case list as well.

This question goes out especially to the not presently owned slaves, but i would love to hear from owned slaves as well.

My requirements have changed slightly - but the need for compatibility hasn't.  I'm not a high-protocol or ritual type person anyway, so a guy who was really into that wouldn't be compatible.  What I used to think were "hard limits" - some of them have changed.
Basically I was seeking a vanilla guy outside of the bedroom and someone who could dominate me in it.  They say you'll know it's right when the right one comes along.  In my case, that was definitely true!

Most of my requirements are about interpersonal skills and personality really. If they are not met it doesn't matter if the guy meets everything else on my non existent check list. Personalities need to match, else wise it's all hopeless.

I need a great interpersonal relationship at the heart of things - everything flows from that for me.  A good listener.  Someone who makes me laugh, and who enjoys me just as much.  The kind of man I could talk to for hours and not notice the passing of time.  I do need them to be experienced in D/s as well - I wanted someone who knew what he wanted.

Things like protocol and BDSM play is all negotiable, depending on the person.

He has to have his shit together. He can't control my life if his is a catastrophy.
He has to enjoy me and connect with me on multiple levels, not just bdsm.
He has to have a sense of humor.
He has to love me.

Physically? 6' tall, heavier than average, some hair, heavily muscled but not from bodybuilding.
No anger or rage issues.
Must have offspring and be devoted to them. Fathers who don't pay support, don't know what subjects they struggle with in school, don't stay in contact are not people I can respect and I don't want my ums exposed to people I think badly of.
Nonsadistic, heavily into bondage and sex.
Has to tolerate, if not love, miniature golf.

Physically - none, i'm more attracted to personality.
 
He has to be :-
Honest.
Have a sense of humour, be able to laugh at himself as well as my bad jokes and blonde moments.
Reasonably intelligent.

Since I'm no longer "looking" for a master, I'll simply list the greatest things about the Master I am with:

*Confidence
*Sense of humor compatible with mine
*Great work ethic
*Voracious reader/book lover
*Music lover (except He hates 70's pop.  Who can figure that out?[8D])
*Very laid back - not high protocol at all
*Shares the same morals/values/political ideologies, etc. that I have

and many others but those top the list for me...................luci

I wanted a Master who had the same definitions of M/s as mine with the same understanding of how that would be a constant of us all the time and not just behind closed doors or now and again for kicks.

sorry, no "best case list of criteria" here for this slave.
 
submitting is like breathing in and out...it doesn't have to be within certain parameters that "inspire" it out of this slave...it isn't "balanced" by any dominant role in other aspects of her life....it isn't something that magically appears/disappears once the bedroom/dungeon door is shut/open.
 
all that was required for this slave to submit to another, before this slave was owned, was the other party in question's acceptance of her submission...and she submitted to everyone that crossed her path who was willing to accept it.
 
now that this slave is owned, Master's approval is required before this slave submits to another.

This is true for me as well. That is why i said "comfortably" meaning that there are some i am less comfortable with and some i am more comfortable with, not that i make the final call or even initiate intimacy with others.

I realize that my statement was unclear and thank you for helping me get that thought a little more cogent.

My requirements for a domme were all pretty simple and non-negotiable.  They were mainly personality centered.
 
Faithful
Honest
Trustworthy
Caring and nurturing
Affectionate
A great sense of humor and playfulness
Open-minded
Interests in rubber, bondage, and breath play
 
 
I also had preferences for appearances, but those weren't written in stone...
 
Gothic
Long red hair (or a brunette)
Green eyes
Tall and amazon-like
Curvy and plus-sized
Thick, luscious lips
Well manicured nails (preferred French-tipped)
Soft, milky white skin
 
All I know is I struck gold with Mistress.  Even though she isn't tall and amazon-like, she still knows how to knock me down a peg or two and put me in my place.  She has everything else I could have hoped for.  She may not be perfect to some, but she is absolutely perfect for me. [:)]  I'm a very, VERY happy slave!

Humour. Humour is a huge thing. The couple that we met here on CM had our hearts (and my ass!) from the moment they said over dinner after we'd cracked the obligitory axe murder joke -

"Well, let's see...we haven't axe murdered anyone in what...."(he turned to his lady) "at least a month?"

I knew right then and there that we would all get along great. And we do!

Paitence - I can get really nervous, and I tend to talk alot more and alot faster. My husband gets really quiet when he gets nervous, so you've got to be able to handle the maniac talking from me and monosyllabics from my husband. We like experience in impact play, since I enjoy it so much, I don't want some random yahoo just grabbing a paddle and, as Lynxx said in another thread, whacking my spine with it.

And general compatibility. Are you a nerd? Can you talk about science fiction? Do you like cats? Who did you vote for? That sort of thing.

Those are play partner requirements, though, the only "Master" I have is my husband and so we're in it for the long haul, like it or not!

not a requirment but it helps that he is 100% Irish and sexy as hell.

When i was seeking the only "requirement" that i had in a 'Master' was that he be able to master me.  It is hard to define exactly what mix of qualities goes into that certainly: intelligence, certainly, a will of iron, a certain lack of susceptibility to "feminine wiles", physical and emotional strength, confidence, etc. But i knew it when i met it :-).

Great Question Feydeplume. Let me think...OUCH ! That hurt. I don't have many requirements. Understanding, and respect, and someone who doesn't expect me to stand at attention when she snaps her fingers. A GOOD sense of Humor. She would have to, after dressing me up and to looking at me afterwards. LOL I have GREAT Legs, but not much else.

Somone who likes to e-mail or chat. Maybe even a Reader, so we could share Books, maybe even the 2 I wrote. Maybe someone who likes the ARTS, especially Ballet, but that would be a bonus, and not a requirement I think. OUCH ! There I go again. I have to stop thinking. It gives me a head ache.
