Thank you for the message, and for explaining your viewpoint here, I appreciate that! You're right in that conservatism has slowly been edging away from actual conservatism - and I do know that in alot of these things that it is my own stereotypes that are being challenged. Just something I thought I'd throw out there, and happily so, since it got a good explanation!

I'm not, for some Doms anyway.  After all, being a liberal or Democrat means having a nuanced world instead of a clear black-and-white one, plus rubbing shoulders with all those soft fuzzy topics like gay rights, the environment, whale-saving, etc. Can't have that, now can we--it might challenge their masculine Domness. So instead they fuel themselves with nightly doses of O'Reilly and Hannity, and thus stay all manly-like.

Maybe a nuanced world doesn't fit in with some Doms' "I give the orders around here" mindset, who knows.  In their world, who looked more "Dom" in 2004, the swaggering "stay the course" cowboy, or the brie-eating parasailer?

Not that I necessarily disagree with most of the post, but this part struck me as ironic...claiming to have a nuanced world instead of a clear black-and-white one...while painting the "opposition" in absolutes.

Not all conservatives (And probably not a majority) fit the mold you paint them as...and I know more than my fair share of liberals that have extremely absolute, biased opinions who reject anything that doesn't fit their narrow world view.

Open-mindedness and closed-mindedness are not unique to either liberals or conservatives...you'll find plenty of both in both parties.

all federal building are mandated to keep the thermostats @ 68.
Another case of do as I say, not as I do.
Same ole same ole.

I did not know that. You learn something new every day as they say!

But my point stands that you should contact him directly to voice your displeasure at his lack of conforming to federal law. I provided you with the correct address and everystuff. There's really nothing more I can do about it as I'm quite sure if I drove to DC, and attempted to access the Oval Office thermostat for you, I'd likely be shot by a Secret Service agent. Personally, I don't care enough about the temperature in the Oval Office to risk breaking a nail, much less a gunshot wound.

...and in all honestly, I'm really only following and participating in this thread for its comedic value, so please keep that in mind when reading my posts here and don't take me too seriously...

Yep, I know my share of Republicans very guilty of that.

I also know my share of Democrats who desperately need to do the same. =)

(It's one reason I don't consider myself neither right now hehe.)

I'm gonna break in here with something that's off topic, and may not belong here to begin with. But here goes:

I am genuinely, geniunely surprised to find that there are conservative kinksters out there. Honestly surprised. Why, you say? Politics have nothing to do with kink, you say? Well, they don't - except where they do.

I guess I just have a hard time getting my head around the fact that someone who would throw in with the conservative crowd of anti-gay, anti-this, anti-that would also have no qualms with kinky and often judged as immoral, sick, and dangerous sorts of sex that kinksters tend to have. Seems a mighty contridiction to me, even as I know human beings are nothing if not walking balls of contridictions.

Anyhow, questioning over. Back OT:

What in the world makes you believe that all conservatives are cut from the same cookie cutter ? That's just a tad prejudicial, no ? Just as prejudicial as me saying all liberals were bed wetting socialists. < which I do not believe >

And  being a " kinkster" is not a political affiliation. We, kinksters, are people just like any one else. We have differing political affiliations and philosophies. Do you know there are Gay conservatives ?  Do you know there are Pro choice conservatives ? And even conservatives who support free enterprise, including porn shops.

Do you know there are liberals who think what we do is sick, immoral and deviant ? I know quite a few.

This lifestyle, as some call it, is not about everyone involved subscribing to the same political and social beliefs. No more than it is  about  us subscribing to the same set of BDSM practices.

I belong to neither of these political groups and have fierce opposition to what many in each group stand for.  And to be really honest with you, a politicians stand on kinksters is pretty low on my checklist of priorities, given the magnitude of problems we as a society are facing right now.

It's your vote and if your measuring stick for chosing a candidate is heavily weighted on their postion on kinkster-ism,  good for you. I think and hope that most people here have a higher standard when electing politicians. I have not seen one Obama-ite say they voted for him because he is going to make the kinkster world a better place. They seem to be a bit more concerned with the issues we are facing as a nation and their job security, healthcare, their ability to hang on to their homes, their opposition to the Iraq war, and a miriad of other issues we are facing as we sink further into a dark hole as a country. I may not agree with the Obama-ites, but I give them much more credit than to think they voted for him cuz he was " kink friendly"

Sent in a message earlier but felt important enough to share here. About conservatives and kink...the "conservative" party of late isn't really conservative at all...there's a reason for the term "neo-con".
REAL conservative politics is about conservative government - ie, smaller government; less spending; being more fiscally responsible.
I believe for instance, that governments shouldn't be involved in what people do in their bedrooms, and should stay out of marriage - That's a *real* conservative viewpoint.

I first started following politics in high school during the Reagan years.

I supported Reagan and bought this line of bullshit that conservatives like to tell.

Then I watched his administration bring in the Moral Majority and that disgrace Falwell as almost a secondary government.

So, are you saying that the saint of conservatives wasn't really a conservative?

That's it exactly, actually, when I mentioned that I know a good deal of this are my own stereotypes being challenged rather than anything that may or may not be based in reality.

It's a new thing (at least on a political/moral level) for me, and it's taking some time to rearrange some of the stuff that I see versus how it fits into what is reality.

And I do understand that simply because one identifies as conservative doesn't mean they condone Falwell's antics, it's just confusing to me that one would ally themselves at all with a group that does, in general, identify with Falwell when so much of what we do would have Falwell rolling in his grave. (to use an easily recognisable person)

The people on the federal payroll increased by 61,000 under Reagan's administration, the federal budget jumped up...

...so no, I wouldn't consider him as conservative has history apparently has painted him.

Did you expect anything less?

They spent $80 million to prove Clinton cheated on his wife.

Not to mention all the other millions the fiscally conservative party wasted on witch hunts into his past which produced nothing.

Which makes the whining about legitimate criticism of a Republican President, whose policies have ground this country so far down it will take years to recover, all the more laughable.

Then I guess I would have to ask who you would consider a conservative, since Uncle Ronnie has been anointed by most as the shining beacon of all that is good and righteous in Republicanland.

If we actually had a real conservative in the presidency in memory; I'd be happy to point him out.  Actual fiscal and governmental conservatism has been dead in this country for a very long time.

Ron Paul is very much a real fiscal conservative...which is why he had zero shot at the presidency.

Federal law or not, hopefully Obama's not so ignorant that he's totally unaware of how wrong it is for him to preach about the fire and brimstone of "Global Warming" one day, and then to shove the White House thermostats up to eighty degrees the next.

What I'm thinking is that he just doesn't believe in Global Warming. He couldn't, and still behave the way he does.

Could he?

And it's not just this, either. He frequently jets off to Hawaii, for example, and he has millions of his adoring fans travel all the way to D.C. just to see him get sworn in... and so on.

Sure, he accepts the donations and the votes from the Global Warming church members. But is he a true believer?

I think not.

I'm not judging anyone by the temperature they keep their work environment. I keep my office nice and toasty warm too and I like it in the winter months!

Besides, its not like he went off and started a war to settle a family grievance and 'Americanize' a Muslim nation, and in the process caused the deaths of thousands of US soldiers, and then funneled billions of taxpayer money into the war-torn country to be stolen by local officials fleeing the region... Its just way too early in his presidency for that kind of lunacy.

What E2Sweet said!

and you know that ALL conservatives are anti this that or what ever how?
have you met ALL conservitives? or are you just reading/repeating what you hear in the media?
and too early no, not then curious george was running about the country telling the US POP you cannot drive an SUV, you cannot set your thermostats to 72.
well I guess he has his set at 82 so he wasnt really lieing.
or what he?
again , the do as I say NOT as I do mentality that has this country in a mess.
you dont see the hypocrisy ?
like his statment about having the MOST ethical administration then , nominating a tax cheat to head the Dept of treasury.
again hypocrisy.

and the left sitting there sayin , well let him be, he is busy, too busy to follow his own guildlines?
if that is the form of Govt you will accept then I  pitty you. we should demand MORE from all of them, and not just accept what they do or say because they have a D or an R after their name.

I've met enough self-proclaimed conservatives in my 27 years to know that many - nay, 99% of them - consider themselves conservative in most of their beliefs, morals included.

Otherwise, why identify as a conservative and not a liberal? The two do stand for different things, after all.

I've also had the privilage of meeting the chance few conservatives who were the exception to the rule, thus my confusion over it. If one person could seperate finicial conservatism from moral conservatism, why not more? That sort of thing.
