I'm thinking of getting something similar to this:

I'm unable to wear leather, since it causes skin irritation, and I'd like to get one that would work for every day and hopefully even dressy occasions.  I'd like to find a working heart shaped padlock that I could use to close it.  What do you guys think?

They are very nice!  They are very feminine and discreet if you need it to be.  I also know about being able to only wear certain materials because of my skin.  I can only wear stainless steel and titanium because my skin is so acidic.  Silver and gold tarnish very quickly on my skin.  My collar is stainless steel chainmail with a corrosion-resistant lock.  I wear it every single day, 24/7...even to work and vanilla settings.  Some people look and admire it, others don't notice it.  I had a little flack at work, but nothing I couldn't handle and quickly resolve.

My opinion is just get something you really like and not worry what others might think.  While we are quite knowledgeable and have exquisite taste, you are the one who's going to be wearing it.  Just get something you enjoy and be proud of it and the symbolism behind it.

Does anyone know where I could find a sterling silver working heart shaped padlock to go with this?  I've found a ton that either don't work or aren't sterling silver ^^;

Hello Thorns82,
Am sure it will look gorgeous on you.

And No I don't and if I did, I don't live anywhere near you!

I wish you enough.

I actually don't know, but a suggestion may help you: see if you can locate an SCA or other historic jeweler and propose the question; alternatively, find a historical domestic blacksmith (not a bladesmith or a farrier or fence-maker but someone who makes hardware for boxes and chests along with other tools and such)—and ask hir if xhe can work in silver also…or provide an antique lock & key design to a jeweler.

For what it's worth—I know just the guy whose brain to pick, but he only works in iron…on t'other hand, he's got a number of ancient lock designs in his head.

Either of these seem like they would work.

They would if they weren't made out of nickle, or nickle plated...they list it on there because it's a common metal allergy, which I happen to have ^^;  I might be able to coat it in the fingernail polish like stuff I have, but I really want it to look like a matching lock and necklace - I'm not sure if nickle and sterling would match.  I suppose it if doesn't I'd only be out $10, so I might try it if I can't find another alternative.

I'm having the same problem finding Stainless Steel padlocks.
The "key" is in that they have to work not just look like padlocks!
Good luck in your search.

I bought my sub in Los Angeles that same necklace (chain), I then upgrade, on our first anniversary to a beautiful polished stainles steel rigid collar, which was more sexy...

I will post the link when I get a minute.

Hmmm.. I can't find the site for some reason, but it is like the collar in this link...
