I am wondering if anyone has any more information on setting file associations in Vista.  I have read through & tried to work through numerous tutorials as to how to do this, with no luck at all.

I have been trying to download the newest version of Firefox, but everytime I try to actually install it, I get a note saying the program has no file association for it.

Is there anyone here that can help?  Thanks.

MissIsis, I know that Vista is a 64-bit system, so the Firefox app might be an incompatible 32-bit program.  I've had programs that were 32-bit for XP turn out to be incompatible with Vista.  Other than that, I'm not sure what else it could be.

I hope this helps.

How do I find out if the firefox version I am trying to download won't work with my 32 bit system?  I have tried downloading it directly from the automatic update & by going to the firefox site itself.

This file association and sometimes Vista itself makes me feel quite inadequate in this.  I don't mean to be stupid, but I am not sure where the exe is?  Should I be looking at the download box with the file I am supposed to click on to start the install?  I don't see a place there to run as administrator, nor do I see it, if I pull up the menu & right click.

Is the exe command you are speaking of, somewhere else?

JustDarkness, you are a genius.  The link worked and with very little effort on my part.  Thanks so much!

normal a file is filename.exe
to run it you normally double click with the left mouse button

to "run as administrator" you click with right mouse button on it, a menu pop-ups..and you will be able to select it
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/
if you download from here..it will ask where to save the file...choose your desktop..to find it eassier back ;)

just a thought...windows can hide extensions such as exe/zip/rar
if you open my computer or any other directory/map, then in the left upper corner there is "organize"
select in there "folder and search option"
then "view"
and deselect "hide extensions for known file types"
click ok
now you can see the extensions

lol I wish I had read it before I had typed the whole story

I am glad you didn't.  That last post from you has some good information, as well.  Thanks again.
