Just a question :

All with what's happening in the world today, things that are actually touching us on a personal level, that being our finances and the worry about our personal futures, we come here and other places and moan about what is going on.

Now, I accept moaning is an outlet, I do enough of it myself, but does it actually help the situation, do we go away feeling sated for moaning, receiving the moaning of others and adding to others moans in some perverse way, or does it just push the gloom further ?

The situation is bad by all accounts,we are so well informed by the media, but then the media has always been a purveyor of doom and gloom, how often do we hear of anything good from them, are they adding to the gloom ?

So, here, what do you think, we all know times are difficult, but could we use this forum for something more positive than furthering the gloom, by all means moan, but how about some ideas on making things better for ourselves, any little tricks or savings anyone has come across, perhaps pass them on to help others, as knowledge is power and why not empower ourselves with some helpful things which might ease a person's life in these hard times.

Let's share what is good and positive.

Great topic. With the winter blahs ... I think I am dragging. So I am off to bed. I try to release every care in the world there.

....there will have to be a "time out" for all the moping.   Maybe I should learn to play the piano- or read some of the interesting books I picked up.

...this is a HUGE topic. I could hear the sigh of relief in my sister voice when I told her of the things she could DO.   there is good news- we have to have a keen eye for it- and jump on it.

it is going to be an interesting time to be alive-

we dont like change.    not in our routine- .....not in our life.

so- one day at a time. :-)
oh-- be sure to breath correctly---

Well, if I could get ahold of a lobbyist who helped get us into this "global economy" and beat him senseless with an iron pipe that surely would put a smile on my face!

Not sure about the ;pink sunglasses, but the booze and grass works for me. However, been there, done that, and than you wake up to reality.

I think in our personal lives we have to keep thinking the glass is half filled even when all about you are crying in despair. Yes, unemployment is rising and some economists are saying it can go to 9% or 10%....Yea..it could...but that is still not a depression...and we have safety nets for people that were not around in 1932 when unemployment went to 25%! If we keep ourselves calm and rational during these times I think we can pull through as individuals and as a country. In my area of Bucks County, Pa.unemployment is running a bit over 5% and while house prices are soft, it's not a disaster, and anyone who bought a home more than one or two years ago is probably even or up in their equity. However, psychology is so poor you would think you were in Miami, Las Vegas or California....mostly due to media negativity. Everyone has tightened their spending and retail is suffering.... Again, we have to see leadership with positive focus in their rhetoric.

I have learned that stressing about the future is futile. I have been to hell and back before, so at least I a step ahead.

So most things roll right over my back and sit on the back burner likely to be forgotten.

I learned this in personal life and the world as a whole.

I deal with enough stress and dont try and carry the whole world in my hands. In my position there is nothing much I can do but roll with the punches as they come and manage best I can.

While I applaud your positive attitude and attempt to instill camaraderie, I'm not so sure that the lack of response on this thread isn't a testimony to there not being such an overwhelming amount of doom and gloom.

I'm not saying that there's aren't any number of problems going on in the world right now. It's just that, quite frankly, there's always any number of problems going on in the world. It's nothing new. People persevere and do what they need to do. Life goes on... couples marry, children are born, there's laughter and love.

To be honest, there's just as many good things going on in the world as there is bad. The sun will come up tomorrow. Enjoy the good while you can.

I can't do anything about things, so no reason to stress about it too much. Yeah it makes me angry, but I have a job, and I have money and food on my table. I know I will have to cut back and already have, but its like another poster said, most of us will make it through just fine.

I was the one who said that, but at the same time I have to admit it's probably not quite that simple. The problem is, in order for people to benefit from that realization, most of them are going to need to redefine their concept of "just fine." One of the things that disgusts me the most about so many of my fellow Americans is the sense of entitlement, the conviction that they deserve anything they want simply because they want it. The fun's over, at least for the foreseeable future. If we're very lucky, and we get very, very good leadership from the Obama Administration, we may (in a few years) get back to a way of life that's somewhat similar to the one that just blew up in our faces, but I'm sure not counting on it. Because you can't count on luck, and based on what I've seen of the Democratic leadership over the last couple of weeks as they've butchered this so-called "economic stimulus package" and failed to respond to the continuing and deepening crisis in the banking industry, I don't think we can count on much useful help from them, either. I think we've got some very tough times ahead of us, much tougher than a lot of people dare to imagine right now.

But. Like I said, most of us will still be fine. Just not the same kind of fine we've allowed ourselves to become accustomed to. It remains to be seen how well the average American grasps that and adjusts to it.

One thing about our financial crisis is that it has rather trivialized Lou Dobbs. Is it possible, after all, that illegal immigration is not the root of all of our problems?

The basic cure is realizing people must stop living beyond their means and using credit as a general bad habit.

If you can't afford it, don't buy it. Don't spend money ya don't got. No sense at all to count your chickens before they hatch anymore, the eggs are likely rotten.
