It's a pretty powerful ad but I'm not surprised that NBC refuses to air it.

I'm pro do what you wish, but I thought that was a very powerful advertisement. Sad NBC said no to it.

kdsub -> RE: NBC nixes pro-life Super Bowl ad (1/31/2009 9:33:08 AM)

Super bowl is for fun...not political advertisements

kittinSol -> RE: NBC nixes pro-life Super Bowl ad (1/31/2009 9:34:28 AM)

What a fucking joke of an advert. Good job it was nixed.

JustDarkness -> RE: NBC nixes pro-life Super Bowl ad (1/31/2009 9:39:01 AM)

IS the president related to the advert? Or does he just appear in it?

kdsub -> RE: NBC nixes pro-life Super Bowl ad (1/31/2009 9:41:07 AM)

How about one on the other ½ million or so unwanted…neglected…abused children that suffer lives of misery…lost dreams…violence to themselves and others.

You know balance
Butch

Lynnxz -> RE: NBC nixes pro-life Super Bowl ad (1/31/2009 9:43:33 AM)

I wonder if Obama even knew about this advert.... hahaha. I imagine it'd be awkward to suddenly pop up on a superbowl ad.

kdsub -> RE: NBC nixes pro-life Super Bowl ad (1/31/2009 9:46:20 AM)

Hey lets show a few rotting lungs for the smokers… don’t forget some crying mothers and smashed bloody cars for the drinking crowd…got to counter the beer commercials.
Damn for one day I’d like a little less reality.

DomKen -> RE: NBC nixes pro-life Super Bowl ad (1/31/2009 9:47:52 AM)

Well of course it is a flat out lie. Those are not sonogram images of the President. That technology did not exist when his mother was pregnant.

snappykappy -> RE: NBC nixes pro-life Super Bowl ad (1/31/2009 9:50:59 AM)

what about the upcoming films from some studios which have
any violence in them or anything along that line

just show the stupid comical ones

i can watch the news and get the horrific stuff on it

Yeah, everyone has a "cause" don't they?
Superbowl is all about having fun!
I want to see drunk people in Beer Ads, gorgeous Chicks in Bikinis, and what the HELL ever happened to the Swedish Bikini Team?
Anyone know?
Let's take a vote on bringing them back; "All in favor,..... AYE! Opposed........, the AYE's have it!"
Those groups who are against "sexism" piss me off!
How do they think their parents got them, by waving a flag?
Stuck-up people like that are perfect for bondage, that way it's not their "fault" when they have an orgasm!
"Try these handcuffs on, they're from Paris."

Lucylastic -> RE: NBC nixes pro-life Super Bowl ad (1/31/2009 10:02:34 AM)

ok I find this hypocritical in the extreme
"The Catholic Vote supports Pope Benedict XVI and the full teachings of the Catholic Church. We are a lay association of the faithful with over 100,000 members."
(Taken from their website http://www.Catholicvote.org )  and they oppose what the president views on abortions are, they dont like the condoms or birthcontrol, are for abstinence programs.
in fact their home website Fidelis.org has this at the bottom of the abortion issues page
"Just as we could never imagine supporting a candidate for elected office that supported slavery, we would never consider supporting a candidate who doesn’t believe in laws that protect unborn children and mothers from the danger of abortion. Politicians who refuse to defend the rights of the unborn forfeit any claim to protecting and defending the vulnerable and defenseless in our country on other issues."

They go and use his story as a way to "congratulate" him,

What about all the lives that were ruined by the church themselves???  some chance they had. and yet they are conveniently forgotton.

Blech
ya I know we are all hypocrites  at some time, maybe often but this reeks  to me
Lucy

im curious as to why they rejected it.  the country is fairly split on the pro life pro choice thing... and the catholic church certainly has the money to pay for the spot-  im willing to bet(though i dont know) some ravening prochoice advocate got their undies in a twist and raised too much stink... this ad is sure better than blowing up abortion clinics or shooting doctors though

A demagoguic advert like that will not prevent zealots from acting out. In fact, it may well encourage them. Honestly, there is so much wrong with the add it amazes me anyone dared putting it out there to start with: it borders on laughable. Does anyone know which advertising company produced that pile of crap?

More likely it's because showing an ad for either side would alienate the other and that's bad business.

...seriously, it's not obvious to you?

This is a divisive subject, no matter what side of the debate you fall on. The Superbowl is one of the few events in the US that brings the country together. i can't think of a worse time to accentuate the differences in society.

popeye1250 -> RE: NBC nixes pro-life Super Bowl ad (1/31/2009 2:13:12 PM)

If I were CEO of the Steelers I'd make an ad showing a live abortion with the caption; "This is what we're going to do to the Cardinals!"

MissSepphora1 -> RE: NBC nixes pro-life Super Bowl ad (1/31/2009 2:45:00 PM)

I believe any woman who cannot show they can afford to care for a child, including medical insurance and college tuition should be injected with depo to prevent their getting pregnant.  ESPECIALLY women on welfare.  Women on welfare should be first on the list to get the depo shot, or something similar, until they can get off of welfare and get a job.
I don't care if the woman is married to a millionaire, she should show that she can support that child on her own, with her own income, because we all know that more than half of marriages end in divorce, and can she support that child if she's single?  What if her husband dies?
Also, any woman who is retarded or disabled should be sterilized to prevent pregnancy.  I mean, we all know that retarded women can't possibly care for a child without assistance from the government.  And... well... women who may need assistance shouldn't be having children.
That way we will prevent any abortions from taking place to begin with.  No mistreated or neglected children that way.
Only rich, smart, well educated women should have babies!

I didn't see anything in the ad that suggested that was really a pic of Obama in the womb. Maybe they thought we would have enough sense to figure that it was a representation. I guess they were wrong with you.
