-=Women seek online adult dating more than men do=-

Today while doing market research, I came across some interesting numbers concerning the keyword “adult dating”.  Females constitute the greater portion of the online dating searches at a rate of 64/36.

Male     Female            <18      18-24   25-34   35-49   50+
36%     64%                 20%     20%     21%     20%     19%

However, the logon attendance of males here at CollarMe seems to be contrary to my general impression and these statistics of the internet.  If you logon to the other side w/o filters and look at the first 10 pages, you will see  far more than 60% blues vs reds/pinks.  It seems to me that this free online BDSM community here at CollarMe is extremely disproportionate to other online vanilla dating communities.

1 - Do you think female submissives in the BDSM lifestyle are less likely to ‘aggressively’ seek a partner online like their vanilla counterparts do?
2 – Are you a member of other online dating pay sites and it seems disproportionate there?
3 – Are other free sites as disproportionate as CollarMe?

Not to sound to snide, BUT i have to wonder how many of those women are actually men having a bit of a joke, how many are pros with as many as 50 profiles, how many are ad farms or cam links, and how it takes into account the dating pools in chat rooms and other online meeting places. And conversely how many men have multiple profiles, especially on free sites.

I have seen the numbers a few years ago for paid dating sites (the ones that now have adds on TV) and the rate of men was higher than women, plus the women were less likely to respond to interest or emails than men. but like i said, that was years ago now.

Lynnxz -> RE: -=Women seek online adult dating more than men do=- (2/2/2009 12:03:03 PM)

I think the people that decided this should take a closer look at the ''women'' that they've noted on the various websites. Fake profiles set up by the website, guys pretending to be women, and other various issues must have skewed those numbers.

1) Female submissives, at least on this site, can afford to sit back and let the emails roll in because they are so outnumbered.
2) Nope
3) Wouldn't know

RedMagic1 -> RE: -=Women seek online adult dating more than men do=- (2/2/2009 12:03:21 PM)

Those statistics jive 100% with my own experience, including my brief stint on Match.  For example, a friend of mine, who is a marketing director, looked at all the men on Match in our area, and then all the women, and told me I had more to choose from than she did.

Regarding CollarMe, my hunch for some time has been that more women are looking to meet in real than men.  So more men log on, but to get their jollies.  When you consider who actually seriously wants to meet in real life, and build a relationship -- whether friendship, regular playpartner, or something "deeper" -- there are at least as many women looking as men.

1. i am not a submissive, but i dont think there is anything to differentiate seeking  bdsm vs vanilla (number/percentage wise)...some women will use the net to seek a "hook up" regardless...it is like a default.
2. no
3. yes...there r more women on earth than men [:)]

There are two kinds of market research: primary and secondary.  Secondary research means using published information such as industry profiles, trade journals, newspapers, magazines, census data, and demographic profiles. Primary research means gathering our own data.

I am doing secondary research so I cannot speak for the data filter method as I did not conduct the survey personally.  I can tell you that women in general, in real life statistics with real women (unless there was some great conspiracy of men in drag with fake ID) showed "women, far more than men, are likely to act out their behaviors in real life, such as having multiple partners, casual sex, or affairs".

-=Factoid=-
Women and Pornography

Women keeping their cyber activities secret                       70%
Women struggling with pornography addiction                     17%
Ratio of women to men favoring chat rooms                        2X
Percentage of visitors to adult webss who are women         1 in 3 visitors
Women accessing adult websites each month                      9.4 million
Women admitting to accessing pornography at work           13%

1 - Do you think female submissives in the BDSM lifestyle are less likely to ‘aggressively’ seek a partner online like their vanilla counterparts do?

Yes. Considering a frequent submissive fantasy is being "pursued" or "overtaken". Aggressively seeking a partner runs counter to that mind set. This stacks on top of the cultural expectations that it is supposed to be the man who pursues and the woman who accepts/rejects his advances.

2 – Are you a member of other online dating pay sites and it seems disproportionate there?

I have been, but I don't remember noticing one way or another.

3 – Are other free sites as disproportionate as CollarMe?

Pretty much at least as disproportionate. CM's biggest problems in this regard are the explicit nature of the site and the unlimited communication. I would expect that you will find that most women find the sexual explicitness rather off-putting and the swamping of messages extremely tiresome. For the "adult dating", was the research talking about adults seeking dates (like Match.com), or *adult* dating as in sex-based dating (like SexSearch)?

A woman on a pay-site is taking non-free step towards finding a partner, so I would expect to find that they are a bit more aggressive in the process.

As a female who attends BDSM events on a semi regular basis I'd say that, in general, women are less likely to need to aggressively seek out a partner online. This, of course, won't hold for every location or every woman but this is the impression I've gotten.

Not sure about fetlife as I just don't do a lot of searching. That's the only other site I'm familiar with.

did they have a category for : men wanting to screw around on their wives? No I suppose not, would really skew the stats.

1. Not at all. Most women do what they do on here, wait for the males to message them. Those statistics make me cock an eyebrow.

2.I'd never pay for a dating site.

3. Well, one site that I'm thinking of (okcupid) doesn't seem to be that way at all.

beargonewild -> RE: -=Women seek online adult dating more than men do=- (2/2/2009 3:23:38 PM)

I'd be curious to know how many dating site the researchers polled and what the target group these sites are geared towards. It's my own personal thought that it would be the males who'd make up the bulk of the people using these dating sites, so yes it does surprise that females are in the majority according to those stats.
There are a few other sites which can be considered dating site that I belong to though it's more of a hook up site to meet other for casual sex though the long term intent is to find a life partner. It must be mentioned that these other sites I'm on are geared specifically towards gay men so the data isn't accurate in that respect!

Interestingly twice as many women as men participate in therapy as men do.....
it must be all that on-line dating .......

ResidentSadist -> RE: -=Women seek online adult dating more than men do=- (2/2/2009 4:26:19 PM)

64% of people seeking online dating are women.
96% of people seeking porn are men.

Online dating is a pathway to a relationship.  Porn is just a form of sex.  The statistics are consistent with my understanding of the human race.  I don’t find it surprising nor do I think the figures are terribly skewed by some astoundingly unprofessional data research.

All data can be manipulated....it depends  on what one is trying to 'prove' and it's interesting that nothing can be proven by statistics anyway. statistical tests are just a way of showing that certain measurable events happen more significantly under certain conditions than they would do so than by chance.
Now it might be of interest to find out say ny country which has the highest percentage of women on-line dating, or which has a higher percentage of men viewing porn.
I remember figures recently stating that Canada and the UK have the highest internet use per capita. The Canadian variable was thought to be distance...but the Brit variable? repression maybe who knows.
Personally i love a good skew......
and porn, like good cooking, is the pathway to a man's heart.....

ResidentSadist -> RE: -=Women seek online adult dating more than men do=- (2/2/2009 4:46:35 PM)

Porn may be the pathway to a man's heart but it looks like cyber-sex is the gateway to a woman's passions!  From the top 20 sex search phrases on the internet, women only rank higher than men in 5 categories.

Adult Dating
Cyber Sex
Adult Sex
Teen Sex
Free Sex

It is obvious that women show a specific trend in their sexual appetites and it does create a target profile.

Women like interactive online participation like dating and cybering.
Women are age specific and like their sex entertainment to be age defined.
Women like free samples of the sexual entertainment a service will provide.

Please note, this does not represent conversion ratios.  This is only a profile of what women surfing for adult entertainment prefer more than their male counterparts.

Thnx for feed back.  So it seems that BDSM sites don’t have a majority of these women in them.  Eharmony, personals at AOL.com and all the other vanilla love sites must be packed with pussy then eh?  Those vanilla guys must be rolling in online pussy.

I'd be curious to know how many dating site the researchers polled …..
It wasn’t a demographic for actual dating site memberships.  The study was a demographic of who is searching for “adult dating”.  Not all that search will necessarily join etc.and it was my bad to ask a question in the OP that may (or may not) have given the impression all who search join.  But I found it interesting that so many more women were actively searching and surfing for “adult dating” . . . . I tell ya’, they are a bunch of pervs those girls are!
[edit]
Note: In many areas, men and women run exactly 50/50 in some sex categories but men skew way of the curve in other areas.
                 Men       Women
Sex             50%       50%
Sexy            50%       50%
Sex Chat     50%       50%
XXX           50%       50%
Anal sex      67%       33%
Nude           77%       23%
Teen porn    82%       18%   (not "Teen sex" as mentioned earlier)
Free porn     97%         3%   (not "Free sex" as mentioned earlier)

Apparently men use the word "porn" more freely when searching for "sex".
