try 2 years ago???? http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/01/10/AR2007011002731.html "Where mistakes have been made, the responsibility rests with me," he told the nation. "It is clear that we need to change our strategy in Iraq." He added that generals have "reviewed the new Iraqi plan to ensure that it addressed these mistakes" and "they report that it does."A chart released by the White House before Bush's "Way Forward" speech went even further, outlining a succession of basic assumptions made in the past about Iraq that as of yesterday it has disavowed -- including the notion that building a democracy would defuse the insurgency and bring down violence. It was the sort of chart Bush's critics might have put together, not a White House traditionally loath to admit mistakes. quote:

ORIGINAL: Sanity I'm also relieved that President Obama did the right thing in this case but I'm a bit apprehensive as to the reason why. Initially he came out and said he stood by his man Daschle, knowing full well that Daschle was unethical. From here, it looks like the decision may have been purely for political expedience - President Obama threw Daschle under the bus because he had become a liability. quote:
ORIGINAL: Mercnbeth Sanity, I don't know how far you have to go back to find an example of one Presidential decision that wasn't made with some big portion of "political expedience". However, going by memory alone, this is the first one where the 'buck stops here' card was played. "I screwed up" should have been on a handy cue card for the Oval office since 1984. President Obama said exactly that. He said what most of his supporters, especially those on CM, weren't willing to accept. Hell - that's worthy of a kudos right there, isn't it? Rememberthe President's farewell address? "There is legitimate debate about many of these decisions, but there can be little debate about the results. Like all who have held this office before me, I have experienced setbacks and there are things I would do differently, if given the chance. Yet, I've always acted with the best interests of our country in mind. I have followed my conscience and done what I thought was right. You may not agree with some tough decisions I have made, but I hope you can agree that I was willing to make the tough decisions. " not one apology or mention of any wrong doing...I know the guy is gone. But is it not refreshing to hear someone finally accept some form of responsibility for their actions? Obama has a long way to go. he will experience many set backs as well successes. Just seems that if you are going to pick on something, make it something of relevance. Winter storms and throwing Daschle "under the bus" do not quite make the grade.
