That might depend on the number and condition, of the teeth.[:D]

I have never heard of that before.  Thanks for sharing. [:)]

Extra virgin olive oil to whiten teeth.  Put some on a cloth or paper towel and rub your teeth for a couple minutes. Then wipe them with a clean paper towel to remove the oil.  Instant results.

philosophy -> RE: Beauty tips (2/4/2009 3:29:10 PM)

...wow, teeth that taste nice and are good for you too....[:D]

Drink plenty of water, have a well-balanced diet, get enough sleep and exercise and take your vitamins for starters.  I use a vitamin formula specifically for hair, nails and skin.  For skin care products I use Neutrogena primarily along with the clay masks from Queen Helene and the scrubs from St. Ives.

For make-up, do adjust your methods and colors depending on your age, the season, outfit, occasion and the weather.  Less is better for daytime, big drama is great on stage or at night.  I usually have on a light powder, eye-liner and lipstick that is also used for the blush.  Sometimes I use powder blush for both a light eye shadow and the cheek area.  Foundation in cream or liquid form usually feels to heavy unless it is cooler weather or at night.  Mascara is really prone to irritating my eyes because it frequently flakes off so it is worn infrequently.  Nail polish is hit or miss, either way I keep the nails well trimmed and never have those fake ones.

My biggest pet peeve. Women, as we age, we need to constantly assess and occasionally change our hair and makeup styles. Nothing is more pathetic than seeing a 40something woman, with long permed hair, fluffy curling ironed bangs, and blue eye shadow.........all from the 80's!  What was hot and cool when we were in high school does not stay hot and cool decades later on an older body.

I am originally from Wisconsin. When my friends and I return to my northern homeland we have developed a theory that once you reach an area approximately 45 miles north of Milwaukee that all women's magazine, to save publishing companies money, are simply recycled  from the 1980's.

Fuck you Oct '84 issue of Cosmo....I think I nailed her last trip.

Vendaval -> RE: Beauty tips (2/4/2009 3:37:47 PM)

Domi,  you found an 80's high-school year book.  While visiting some friends in a small Mid-Western town we were driving along and spotted a woman with the whole 1950's style bee-hive hair do.  And it was done in that rock-a-billy-retro-look either.  I haven't seen that much hair spray since the 1970's.

Man, I always had the utmost respect for girls who could turn their bangs into this frozen tsunami of  awesomeness !  To this day I have not mastered it.  I miss the blue eyeliner and matching sock/shirt combos with leggings too.

Regarding beauty tricks, I love to give myself a facial massage with olive oil, followed by facial yoga (don't ask me to demonstrate :p, but there are a few examples to be found on youtube). I find this gives my skin a healthy glow, tones up the muscles, and helps calm any bloating that may be going on due to overindulgence.

Hey!  I had hair like that!  When I came to my senses, I got a buzz cut.  Seriously.  It's about an inch long on top.

Several years ago, I begrudgingly went to Junction City Kansas. I had to make a trip to Walmart to buy deoderant I forgot to pack.

I saw a grown woman wearing the red pleather many zippered Michael Jackson jacket, the afore mentioned wave banged hairdo.........AND I kid you not......tight rolled jeans!

I thought I was in one of those Back to the Future sequels.

lusciouslips19 -> RE: Beauty tips (2/4/2009 4:11:23 PM)

Cherry lipstick makes you teeth whiter and Please no Orange lipstick. It yellows the teeth and come on Orange liptick?
(Now coppers and bronzes, thats not the same)

*sneaks in to snog the lucious lips of one lushy gall...

All right, back to topic.

Olive oil is also very good for skin, and feels light.
Palmers makes a version of their lotion with it.

And well... Mediterranean women are the most beautiful in the world.  Olive oil must be the best stuff ever!

Maya2001 -> RE: Beauty tips (2/4/2009 6:55:52 PM)

Being I am having lots of side effects from my cancer, and while cleaning out a closet found a bottle of emu oil I had bought to use of a dog for another issue I decided to give it a try as my skin was becoming very dry and breaking out and regular moisturizers were not cutting it .. surprised it is working great  also has a lot of other benefits  http://www.emuoilcanada.com/

hizgeorgiapeach -> RE: Beauty tips (2/4/2009 8:43:20 PM)

Olive oil is popular because of it's chemical makeup being as close as it is to the natural oils that human skin produces.  It is close enough to our own oils that the skin absorbs it well, it's rarely known to cause a reaction, it doesn't leave a greasy/slimey feel after it's administered, it's a great carrier oil for both scent and pigment, and it's very easily produced even with practically no tech with little necessity for heavy processing. (Which means it Should be relatively inexpensive - unfortunately, popularity has driven up demand which has driven up prices into the ungodly range.)

LaTigresse made a comment about blond with dark roots....yuck.

Worse than yuck. Instant turn-off for me.

lets face it. I'm not getting any younger! What are your make up and beauty tips that you have learned over the years to look better, rested or to keep your makeup applied well?

Were I a woman, this is what I would do:

Take a photo from when you were 20, enlarge it, cut it in the shape of your head, glue it to a piece of cardboard, cut some holes in the eyes, fit some string from ear to ear, and wear it as a mask.

No one will suspect anything.

YourhandMyAss -> RE: Beauty tips (2/5/2009 5:50:07 PM)

My secret is that I don't give one ripping hoot, about make up or beauty products, works like a charm for me:)

here are a couple of mine.

Buy lipstick colored lipliner. Dont just line the lips. Fill them in with the pencil. than when your lipstick wears off you still have color. Or I use Milani bright shine lip pencils. The reds and pinks really hold.

If you are going to a wedding or out nice and you have a big ole honking zit. Color it with eyebrow pencil and call it a beauty mark!

I have a cousin that has written books and is the Ralph Nader of the cosmetics indusrty. She has been on all the talk shows. She swears by 2% hydrogen peroxide for achne and Milk of Magnesia as a facial Mask.

Now tell me your secrets!
