There is no good reason for them: Common argument one: 'We'd have to elect someone if we didn't have them.' No we wouldn't why would we want to create a political position where all that is required is rubber stamping laws? If the Royal family disappeared tomorrow the legislative process wouldn't grind to a halt. Therefore monarchy vs president isn't even an argument. Common argument two: 'They are good for tourism.' Considering the closest most tourists get to seeing them is standing outside the gates at Buckingham Palace couldn't we just pretend they exist and hire a lookalike for public appearances? I have nothing against the Queen, but the others are a waste of space. Yes they make money from investments but where did that capitol for the investments originally come from. Apparently they cost me 50p a year but in reality if I charge interest on what they stole from me they'd be in trouble money wise. And another thing yes they do charity work etc but I'd need to find something to keep me occupied if I wasn't working. Perhaps the public would like to decide for themselves which charities they support rather than be forced to do so by proxy. The face of our society is rapidly changing and the Royal family will not be tolerated for much longer.
