I know it should be "Spell check doesn't help"  but that's my point.

I noticed that sometime recently spell check has been added to the forum.  Still, people manage to misspell by using the wrong words.  So what are some of your pet peeve misspellings and grammar errors?  I made a mistake today choosing a word out of the spell check pick list.  It can happen to anyone.  Maybe I can learn something.  Here are some I've noticed.

"Allot" for a lot.  "A lot" is two words but if you click on "alot"  in MS Word it offers "Allot" but not "a lot".  Looks like CM got it right though.
Dominate or Dominant.  The dominant person dominates.  I screw this up sometimes.
Incite for insight.  You incite a riot.  You may be looking for some insight.
Insure for ensure?  I looked it up. The dictionary said it was okay.  What do they know?
Your vs. You're.  "Your" is possessive.  "You're" means, your are.  In the 90's there was a picture in the paper of people protesting Japanese ownership of American companies.  One guy was holding a sign that said, "The Japanese think your illiterate".

What are some others?

Bill

P.S.  Feel free to point out my errors here.  It seems to be impossible to write a post about spelling or grammar errors without making one.

Well, See, I noticed the spell check. And I thought "SWEET! I soooooo need that!!"  But I went to use it, and for some reason, it doesn't work for me. (So DEAL with my errors! lol)

My biggest problems aren't with spelling. That really doesn't bother me at all.  Usually because I can read things better when they are spelled wrong. That's what I know them by! lol  But I hate, Hate, HATE people who use the word "Ain't"!  When I hear people use it, I cringe.  The same with things like my mom saying Once-st.  And Twice-t.... I don't know how you would spell them, but that's once and twice with a T on the end... That bothers me sooooo bad!

Haha.. it usually doesn't bother me, because I'm pretty sure I have horrible grammar skills. I use ellipses way too often as well, my English teacher hates me for that.

Flat out butchering does irritate me a little, and I end up giving that person a little less credit that I normally would I think.

And so on.
Shrugs. What can I say except I make a great proof reader. When my oldest was in fourth and I was a classroom volunteer, the teacher had them bring me their papers for spelling and grammar corrections. Of course this started after I looked at the blackboard and went up and corrected her mistakes there.

I grew up with my gramma who was a teacher.  I saw correcting people's English as a sign of love.  Funny how most people I did this to didn't see it that way at all - LOL.

What bothers me more than misspellings is someone's idea being attacked as being invalid simply because there were spelling and grammar errors.  I try very hard not to make any but they still slip through.  What hits me as funny is when someone's post was beautifully written but they misspelled something in the title of it.

As I pointed out to many of the people who get on their high horses about asking someone to use spell check before they post in many cases would not work because spell check isn't a Grammar check and often the word they spelled IS A WORD just not the one they wanted and Spell Check will only fix Mis Spelled words.

I mistype ALL THE TIME, but I also read Typoneese Fluently so Fcuk Um if they Cain't read wat I Spel Gud.
