NG, it's not that simple.  I don't know if you're aware of how the federal prisons are here, but they will get sent to Florence, Colorado.  I know folks have got caught up in the hysteria over Gitmo.  But trust me, Gitmo is a resort compared to Florence. 

Prisoners are kept in their cells 23 hours a day.  The cells are 7 feet by 12 feet rooms.  The cells are equipped with a stainless steel toilet/sink combo unit.  The bed is a poured cement slab, with a rubber mattress (it's thinner than your pillow.)  They don't talk to anyone, but guards.  The guards don't talk to them about anything unless they're giving them orders.  The one hour they are allowed out, they go to a small concrete room where there is a basketball hoop and maybe a crude, iron exercise bike.  They get a shower about once a week. 

I don't know about you, but I'll take waterboarding and female military personal making sexual suggestions over that any day you please.  All these people that are demanding rights for these people have no fucking clue what the alternative is.

Ohh...why the hell was I making such a big deal about Gitmo.  Just close it down!  What a great idea.  Why didn't I think of that? 

Just one question...if I might.  I understand there are approximatley 250 men being held against their will in Gitmo.  According to some, including the former Captain of the Cole just today, these people represent the "hard core" of terrorists, the remainder having been sent back to their home countries.  Ok...the Pres closes Gitmo....and...and than?  Do we kill the prisoners there?  Do we hold them for ransom?  Do we send them to Illinois State Prison to live with a few ex-democrat Governors?  Gosh, I missed that one....Hey.....lets just let them go!  Bye Bye..go away bad men...and don't come back.

Dear Diary  Never in my wildest dreams would I think that I would be on the same page as Hillary Clinton.  Obama is not ready for the Office of President.  As Hillary told us, he is not ready on day one.  He is already acting irrationally and out of control.  This young, inexperienced President has never had to face the kind of criticism you get in the "cage fight" of Washington, D.C. Unlike Sarah Palin, I don't think he can take the pressure.
I am afraid he is hiding in a freudian cloak of thinking he is running for office.  Understandable, however,  having never actually had a job. 
 
This can't be true but I heard on a blog that in the middle of the economic crisis that has our country in a tailspin and may never recover, Obama and the Misses went to a classroom for a few hours out of their day just to get out of the White House..and this after two weeks!  I hope this is not my last entry diary.  I'm afraid his entire staff is over their heads and someone out there might do something terrible in the midst of all this confusion.  Ohh..some good news...Panetta does not have a tax problem....although he did make statements before the congressional hearing that he was forced to retract regarding torture during the Bush administration, saying that he has not actually seen CIA reports but only read about them in the "newspaper".  Again..he does not have tax problems.

Status: offline 		Ahh but slaveboy before they are placed in the Federal prison system they will first have to be tried and if found guilty sentenced to a determinate term of incarceration for some crime or another.
At which point due process will have been served and most save bleeding hearts will have moved on.

Anyway, why don't they just put them on trial or send them home?

Slaveboy: whether or not those imprisoned are terrorists, is anyone's guess. I think the point is to maintain focus on a terrorist threat by keeping these people near the US - guilty, innocent or whatever.

Status: offline 		Actually that was the fucked up corporatist thing, and it is in the Dem party as well. This is why so many no longer stand behind the Rep party, they lied. The Rep party deserves to taste ash, and maybe another party will come along and replace it. Some of the same warning signs I am seeing in the Dem party as well. Corporate America is running a lot, and I do not believe Obama will be able to change that tide because some pretty big Dems are in their pocket too. Just different pockets than the corporatist that were in power.

I am hoping that since Obama is relatively new, he does not have as many markers to cash in, but there are a few things going against him. Someone can be a great person and still not do a good job as Pres, Jimmy Carter was a good example of that. I am still keeping my eyes open, but what I see does not show me that much is actually change internally with the government. Just a shift to where power is.

The Feds have been segregating prisoners for their own safety for years,this is nothing new.

Mike, they don't seperate this many at once generally.  We don't have unlimited prison space for segregated prisoners awaiting trial.  BTW, I'm curious how we try 'enemy combatants' when the war isn't over.  Oh damn, I'm sorry.  Our new POTUS says we aren't at war anymore.
