Do you have a song when you hear it, it reminds you of a past love, a person you once shared your life with ?

Was that song pertinant to your relationship ?

I have just happened upon a song which my ex labelled as a song about she and me, I never understood why, but I now do, hence this thread.

The song

Vendaval -> RE: Songs of past love (2/8/2009 5:38:30 AM)

INXS, Devil Inside

"Here come the woman
With the look in her eye
Raised on leather
With flesh on her mind
Words as weapons
Sharper than knives
Makes you wonder
How the other half die
Other half die"

Hands cat a good stiff one...

KMsAngel -> RE: Songs of past love (2/8/2009 6:04:42 AM)

queen's : you're my best friend

took me a LONG time before i could listen to it with equanimity

also: son of a preacher man. ironically, it was very true ... at the time...

Evility -> RE: Songs of past love (2/8/2009 6:58:39 AM)

Yes, I have several songs like that. I can only think of one of them that I actually enjoy listening to today. This does not count the woman I was involved with in the summer of 1994 who loved to fuck to Van Halen.

"Never again...isn't that what you said?"

--Pat Benatar

OK....that's one mood....

"Sometimes I wonder if I'm ever gonna make it home again;
It's so far and out of sight.
I really need someone to talk to, and nobody else
Knows how to comfort me tonight.

"Snow is cold, and rain is wet;
Chills my soul right to the marrow;
I won't be happy 'til I see you alone again,
'Til I'm home again and feeling right."

--Carole King

Then there's Joni Mitchell's "Blue"

...and a host of songs specific to the person. I try not to revisit those!

Hey...you asked.

Only you by Yazoo  actuallly pretty much anything by yazoo or alison moyet from the early 80s
Three times a lady by the  Commodores
Say Hello Wave Goodbye by Soft Cell(12 inch version only)
Many songs, many memories, but these three were heavily favourites and emotional at times

TheHeretic -> RE: Songs of past love (2/8/2009 8:22:43 AM)

There are certain songs that I associate very strongly with times and places in my life.  Lyrical content doesn't have much to do with it.  When I hear this one, it always takes me back to the first girl who ever broke my heart.

windchymes -> RE: Songs of past love (2/8/2009 3:27:43 PM)

Heh.  I learned a long time ago to stop associating songs with people.....never have an "our song".  Cause when you break up, it just increases the agony, lol.

The very first guy who broke my heart....we had seen the James Bond movie "The Spy Who Loves Me" together, so that song by Carly Simon was "our song"...at least to me.  For years afterwards, my gut would wrench when I heard it.  Now I just laugh.

Heh...a particular younger man liked the floor, couch, chairs, kitchen table and even the bed.

Joan Osborne

Right Hand Man lyrics

Let me use your toothbrush
Have you got a clean shirt?
My panties in a wad
At the bottom of my purse

I walk into the street
The air's so cool
I'm wired and I'm tired
And I'm grinnin' like a fool

I've been on the floor lookin' for a chair
I've been on a chair lookin' for a couch
And I've been on a couch lookin' for a bed
Lookin' for a bed, lookin' for my, my

My right hand, my right hand man
My right hand, my right hand man
My right hand, my right hand man
My right hand, my right hand man

Say, "My right hand, my right hand man"
My right hand, my right hand man
My right hand, my right hand man
If he can't fix it, I don't know who can

The sinsemilla salesman
And the cops on the block
They know what I been doin'
They see the way I walk

I wonder what they see now
I wonder what they do
To feel somebody want them
The way I'm wanting you

I've been on the floor lookin' for a chair
I've been on a chair lookin' for a couch
And I've been on a couch lookin' for a bed
Lookin' for a bed, lookin' for, to really be

My right hand, my right hand man
My right hand, my right hand man
My right hand, my right hand man
My right hand, my right hand man

Marc2b -> RE: Songs of past love (2/8/2009 7:24:24 PM)

Yup.  I had me a relationship that I though would end with us both in our nineties and watching the sunset in our rocking chairs while holding hands.  It ended instead when she took off for Houstan leaving a note only saying that “it was never going to work.”  Why?  She never said.  I spent the next two weeks drinking a lot of wine which is why I get all maudlin whenever I hear Red, Red, Wine by Neil Diamond.

I Like the UB40 version too but it’s the Diamond version that can still bring a tear to my eye.

blacksword404 -> RE: Songs of past love (2/9/2009 1:19:40 AM)

Christina aguilera
Obvious

Can you hear it in my voice
Was it something I let slip
Does the whole world know
Isn't it obvious?

I'm the one who's in control
Now i'm acting like a fool
Do my feelings show?
Is my face aglow?
Isn't it obvious?

CHORUS
That I don't know what I'm doing anymore
i'm feeling like a little girl
Caught up in emotions
I'm out of control
Isn't it obvious?

Do you see my hands, they tremble
Wonder why I can't look you in the eyes
Don't know how long
I can keep this inside
Isn't it obvious?

REPEAT CHORUS

Suddenly these emotions are in control of my heart
Can you see it in my eyes
Every glance, every smile
Must give me away
And I feel so much I can't hide

Pretty much that whole first CD of hers. My ex at that time decided she wanted to play it.The song always reminds me of the feelings I had at the time.

MissMorrigan -> RE: Songs of past love (2/9/2009 1:49:18 AM)

I do have several songs pertinent to past relationships that catapault me back in time temporarily whenever I hear them. Those relationships ended. I have no regrets they ended as I maintained very good friendships with most of my former lovers and including my ex hubby. Here's the rub. I don't have an 'our song' with my Reality and come April/May we'll have been together for three years so I can only view the lack of a song as a very positive omen [:D]

ThatDaveGuy69 -> RE: Songs of past love (2/9/2009 2:01:19 AM)

For a girl I dated in high school: "She's So Cold" by the Stones
For a girl I WISH I had dated in high school: "Her Strut" by Bob Seeger

For the 1st girl I ever dated: "That Girl Could Sing" by Jackson Brown
