If this is the wrong place for a CM Technical question and a Moderator chooses to delete it, would you please send me an e-mail with your advise on where this *should* be posted? Thanks.)

(I accept that this is occurring JUST on my end, is not Collarme’s “fault”, and I am asking if anyone else has experienced this phenomenon):

Over the last few weeks, it seems that whenever I look at someone’s "full" profile, my browser sends off a “Friend’s Request” when it was never my intention to do so ... for sure without my permission, NON-consensually even !!

Collarme support says that some FireFox extension on my side is conflicting with collarme. I accept what appears to be a perfectly valid reason from Support.

The solution is to turn OFF all FireFox extensions, then restart , then turn on an extension, then go look at a profile, then wait to see if a friend-request was sent by me, then re-start Firefox, then activate another extension, then repeat the process ... until the varmint (the offending extension) is located.

(Yes I know I could start with the last extension that I installed, but it has been a while since I installed any extension and for sure the last install of an extension predates this problem ... by a few months anyway.)

The problem is while this solution makes great sense (1) this would take a lot of time that I do not have and (2) I pretty well have all the extensions I need (and no more) to take care of business, and am loathe to part with any of them. So, I guess I am OK with checking my e-mail to see if I inadvertently sent a “Friend Request” (thugh it seems to take a while to see this notification in my "Sent Mail" folder). Short term, it is less of a pain than doing the above procedure.

So the question I put out: Has anyone else experienced this phenomenon and if so, what did you do to correct it?

Thanks!

Sheesh.  I'd just use Internet Explorer on collarme.

Point taken, Steven. Thank you for your comment.

However (and I really don't want to start a debate/flame war on "Which Browser is best?") I'm staying with FireFox for a number of reasons.

That being said, I'd be interested in hearing from FireFox Users: Have you experienced this problem before? Were you able to correct it, and if so, then how?

Many thanks in advance,

Lawrence

Katy:

No, they did not say which extension. I do not blame them, and did not expect that they would know. Goodness, there are about a bazillion extensions out there !!

Thanks for your thoughts :)

Yeah, I know.  I dislike IE and the only time I ever use it is to update my cm profile (for some reason, the color panels don't show on my firefox).

I find it odd that any browser would take an action that you did not call for.

I have found some amonalies at times in IE, I will mention them now just in case they have any possible bearing on this issue.

Sometimes when I reply to Cmail and hit send, and then hit back it resends. A couple of times I have gotten mail back asking why I sent my mail twice, which I of course never intended to do.

Something happens every once in a while which defies explanaition, when on CM, the scroll on my mouse selects font size. Yup, try to scroll down and all the happens is the letters get bigger. Figure that one out.

Also when reading mail here, for some reason the active (blue) is in the page field of my recieved mails. So I try to scroll down and it certainly does, to the next page(s) of my retained mail.

Now if IE is doing all this, I would guess that it is not unreasonable that another berowser would do some other funny stuff. I've found that keeping an eye on where both cursors are, and being very careful clicking or using the enter key can help isolate these problems.

Doesn't do a damthing to explain them, but you can figure out how it is happeneing and move on. Welcome to the world of having a computer. I don't try to figure out every problem on a PC to the core anymore, it makes no sense. Just have to figure out how to make it behave as you wish, or figure out a workaraound.

I also use Firefox and have not experienced your problem.  For info, my extensions are:

Adblock Filterset G Updater 0.3.1.3
Adblock Plus 1.0.1
Adblock Plus Element Hiding Helper 1.0.5
Adobe DLM 1.5.2.29
Download Helper 4.0.2
Forecast fox 0.7.2005050801
Google Toolbar 3.1.20081127W
Google Preview 3.17
IMDB Preview 0.5
Lexmark Toolbar 0.2.1
MS Net Framework Assistant 1.0
Mininova Toolbar 1.5.41.0
Noscript 1.9.04
Winamp toolbar 5.5.1.1

Perhaps you can narrow your list down now if indeed it is an extension that is causing the problem.  Hope this helps!
