Maybe this will be of use in the definition of where we all stand, thus enabling, a better understanding of each other (Hopefully !!!).

quote ;
While Cynthia McKinney and Ralph Nader are depicted on the extreme left in an American context, they would simply be mainstream social democrats within the wider political landscape of Europe. Similarly, Obama is popularly perceived as a leftist in the United States while elsewhere in the west his record is that of a moderate conservative

Perhaps during the Presidential election campaign and the run upto it, the European favour of Obama can be explained here, beyond his ethnicity and what he could represent.

Could it also be the difference between our understandings of politics that causes the USA to be so active in the world, what the US thinks is right based upon their belief, is often not the belief of other countries, perhaps countries even of original ancestral emigration ?

You are a brave man to attempt such a discussion here.

Brave or stupid, no matter, it is a question and as with questions it needs to be discussed as if not, we will never arrive at any common understanding, besides I just have to ask, you know that, bloody sun signs and all.

Which way should it be...If we stand back and do nothing our European allies berate us saying we should stand up to our responsibilities as the world power. If we step in according to our beliefs then we are accused of abusing our power. Tell us what you want and believe...stand up for those beliefs or quit bitching...it is so annoying.

Show me any two countries that agree 100 percent politically. Just because your political beliefs differ from the US does not make them right and ours wrong. In fact there is a good chance our beliefs are approved of by more countries than yours. At least they know what we stand for and our position on the problems of today…. Can you really say that about the UK?

  Obama is perceived as someone Europe will be able to take advantage of like they did with Clinton. Europe will always go against American republicans and support their opposition.

The US changes from time to time like all democracies. We swing back and forth from conservative to liberal views depending on the generation in power and world events.

I think the UK and much of Europe is no different…I believe you are in the process of becoming conservative…moving from ultra liberal.

I think the time is not too far away when we will mostly agree as you become conservative and we more liberal…Then we will present a united front to the world problems affecting us.

Explain where the UK view of the world politics differs greatly from Americas. If anything our two views are more alike, than that of Britain and the rest of Europe. No disrespect but you would need to live here, to really understand that.

This part of the post, in particular, seems to be ill-informed.

Well, the world? It's hardly a meeting of political minds.

To illustrate. Of the three countries constituting Great Britain, two of them, Scotland and Wales, vote for a left of centre party at every election; the other, England, votes for the Conservative Party at every election. In other words, three small countries on our island don't see eye to eye in political terms.

we are just different people...hence different politics
