giantessboots -> Anyone heard of cable cuffs? (2/9/2009 4:42:27 PM)

they are used for cuffing extension cords/rope/cable together. I have used these before on my gf and was just wondering if anyone knows some other cheap methods instead of buying real handcuffs

Ummm... rope? Cable ties are one shot deals and really (IMO) not the best option anyway, being thin and potentially dangerous. Honestly, I'm not a big handcuff fan either, as I like to be able to pull at my restraints without injuring myself or leaving distinctive "handcuff bruises" to explain at work the next day. My preference is for a set of bondage cuffs (they don't need to be expensive) or rope bondage.

Although leather (or faux leather) cuffs can be fairly expsensive, rope is cheap and can be fairly quick when you get used to it. However, handcuffs cost only like $3. Probably cheaper than a baggie full of those cable cuffs. You don't need a set of high-quality policeman cuffs (or the fuzzy leopard covered pair). So long as they're double locking, any cheapy set of handcuffs does the same job. Looking around, you can also score a cheap set of cuffs for like $20. I don't know how slim your budget it, times are hard, but that seems like a fair investment if you a) intend to play kinky more than once or twice, and b) value having working wrist circulation.

I disagree.  The cheap handcuffs might be fine for introducing a vanilla into BDSM, but they're not very good for actually restraining a person.  But that's another topic all together.

But I believe these are what the OP had in mind...

Commonly availible at Wal-mart and home improvement stores in a plethora of colors.  I have several for both their intended use play and made a pair of handcuffs out of 2 of them.  I used 3 small cable ties and a dab of super glue to secure them together through the slot in the toothed side.

I made my current cuffs (wrist and ankle) from four feet of 2" industrial velcro, some scrap fleece material, four 1/2" D rings, and a few leather scraps from another project. They are adjustable and comfy, and the lining can be removed for washing. I also have a set of 4 velour ties (5' long each) that I got at the dollar store, $4 total. A little imagination and DIY effort can save lots of $$ when it comes to toys and gear.

you can just get wider cable ties :)

Duct tape works,
So does pantyhose

or, you could use what they call "Riot Cuffs"  http://www.copquest.com/19-1201.htm

A long while back, I saw instructions to make a rope handcuff which worked just like cable cuffs. It was more extravagant then a handcuff knot. It required quite of rope. Can`t find it anymore. But it was really hard to get out of without assistance and you could make it out of heavy gauge rope and it was reusable.
