ORIGINAL: MsFlutter you may find Edmunds useful also p.s. I heard a rumor that fuel-injected type vehicles have a need for premium fuel but, having never owned a fuel-injected vehicle, I cant swear that it is true. I'm sure someone can weigh in on that. (car geek warning) High-octane ("premium") fuel is needed to prevent pre-detonation in high-compression engines. It is usually necessary in engines that are turbocharged, supercharged, or otherwise designed for high-performance (cars from the late 50s through the early 70s often require premium because they were designed for a better grade of gasoline than we get today) Modern computerized engine management systems can actually permit you to get away with running cheap gas in a high-performance engine, rather than making it *more* necessary, because they can change the spark timing and other factors to reduce pre-detonation when it occurs. At any rate, the GTI will probably require premium fuel, for however much that matters. It's a pretty popular model, so you can't really expect the kind of discounts that people are getting on domestic pickup trucks nowadays, but you should still be able to do better than the price above. Unless you are, in fact, bartering some sort of... personal service... in lieu of cash, in which case I'm really not qualified to advise. And just be aware, it may seem like a zippy little car, but a Mazdaspeed3 will beat it like a rented mule, for about the same money
