In the early days I was messed around quite a bit and missed out on well paid jobs due to timewasters and no shows.

Ever since I have charged subs a small deposit of £20 which comes off of their tribute on the day as long as they turn up! It's only a very small amount but tends to deter out and out timewasters I find.

Does anyone else do this? I note in the e-mails on this site it encourages members not to send money, but if I didn't charge a deposit I'd end up sitting on my arse whilst some fantastist laughs at my expense.

Over to you.

I thought about doing that, but then-how do you collect the fee beforehand?  Do they drop it off? Mail it?  Most people don't do online payments because of the paper trail.

If you have a way to do this and be successful, I would be interested to know.

I've e-mailed you personally as I'm not sure what collar me's policies are on mentioning websites and payment processors in the forums.

Email me too!

Do they generally complain about the deposit? I do mostly pro-sub stuff, so they tend to give me more crap than they would  a pro domme.

E-mail sent...

Also the fact that you are sub shouldn't come into it.....

Any new 'client' to you should not automatically demand and expect your respect and loyalty - it must be earnt. So if they are booking you for a session for the first time -  then paying a deposit and taking care of your personal safety is a surefire way to gain your respect, trust and loyalty. Otherwise until then they are just another random enquirer on the internet who may be a timewaster or fantasist.

You'd think it wouldn't have anything to do with it, but with some people, rooted in fantasy and way too much influence from porn, they begin to think that submissives are idiots, and they are a pain in the rear to deal with. Most of the time, if I can figure them out ahead of time, I do not session with them. Meh.

The system you have set up looks interesting... I may see if it works out on my end. While I don't have too much trouble with flakes, they do pop up every once in a while, and always when I'm at my busiest.

While not a Pro-Dom, I do have some experience in business logistics.

It's very common to take a deposit for reserving sections of desired time, particularly when the interests are more fleeting. World class restaurants do it, where-as business consultants do not.

Traditionally this is done with a credit card, charging $1 to 15% or so to a card with an innocuous name. "Princess Kaz's StrapOn and Co." is ill advised.

If you're concerned that clients want zero paper trail, then cash is the best way to go. Your profile did not specify online or realtime Pro-Dom, so I'll assume real time. For the client, stopping by the office with an envelope of cash shouldn't be so hard. Depending on the size of your operation, you could have a small safe office where they show up and pay, then do all the fun stuff somewhere else/the back.

I'm not sure if the ToS here prohibits asking people to send money or not. People are certainly warned against it, because of the opportunity for fraud. But that risk exists everywhere, so it is of little consequence.

I would guess, based solely on human nature, that most of your no-shows weren't laughing at you but, rather, too petrified to knock on your door.  Sure, it's possible that there are people who'll book somebody just to waste their time or, worse, to deny them the opportunity to make money from a genuine clinet.  But most of them will be flakes, rather than malicious.

I didn't start charging fee's or recieving gifts until bois stopped showing up. it would actually cost Me money to take the time to prepare or put aside time. so if showing up makes it cheaper I say take it. I'd take meat over a pay bitch any day

Well, gosh, as long as this is now the all-male thread......

HeavensKeeper, the businesses you are familiar with sound like ones that have -- or could purchase -- insurance; are housed unquestionably within city zoning regulations; and, well, I hope you get the point.  Just because something is not illegal does not make it happy happy joy joy legal beagleistic.  We're talking gray market here, and the more done on the QT, the better.

Mistress Kaz, it's not against the terms of service of CollarChat terms of service to post web sites, unless you are getting a direct cut if someone purchases something from one.  However, as you can probably see just from this thread alone, sending private emails was the right way to go.

Good luck.

Beeble brings up a good point.

It's common place in pornography (including BDSM "porn") to have a short meeting to discuss limits, safewords, likes and dislikes, etc. (recent trends are to show said interviews, as well as closing interviews).

These interviews rarely interfere with the actual scene, and allows for a much more intimate session sooner. What could have taken 3 sessions to find out is now accomplished before they even start. Some people don't have the time (or have to travel twice) for a previous meeting, and hence could only make one session, so the option of billing them during the info gathering session is off the table.

I know RedMagic, it's a real shame about that. Like I said, my experience is not in this field, only in this mechanic. Any advice I accidently spurt out is to be taken with a

Also, Sadista, I'm not sure I understand what you're saying.

I recall Lee Harrington (formerly Bridget Harrington, once a pro domme) describing hir process when xhe was pro. The first meeting with a prospective client occurred at a nice restaurant, and "if I even had to make a move towards picking up the check, I crossed them off." Certainly that is my experience with my subs: when we go out, there's no nice fights, and wasn't even from the first occasion.

I think you are doing this the right way. Your time is as valuable as theirs, if they are worried about £20, I think you have a lot of reason to be worried about them not showing up at all because the whole tribute might be too much!

That is reassuring to know, even though it doesn't stop it being a frustration.

Thanks for the responses all - they make a lot of sense.

PrincessKaz,
I helped 2 different Dommes start their pro dungeons many years ago. I was very good a woodworking and enjoyed building furniture for friends. This was before the internet and things like pay pal and the likes. Both did charge a deposit for a session. Once a client was well established they would not require a deposit anymore. Requiring the deposit upfront did cause a great decrease in the requests for sessions but also helped get rid of a lot of the no shows. They used PO boxes to collect the deposits and also used Western Union.

The downside to charging a deposit is that you run the risk of losing potential clients. The upside is you get rid of 80% of the no shows.
