I wish you were nearby.  I have no clue as to how to set up my new wireless router, and it's been sitting in the box brand new for over a year.  *sigh*

I hate having a laptop and being tethered.

Asher, I understand that there are more jobs than people to fill them in the quad city area of Iowa. I dunno about IT jobs, but some of them, at least must be.

Yeah, I know, Iowa ( Aaack ), but they DO have sweet corn, good pie and LaT and subtee live there. I understand that kinky, unmentionable things go on at LaT's farm...

And hey - QUAD CITIES.... My parents live there, so I do go to visit.

Frankly Iowa is lovely and the people are good.

I would recommend trying some universities darling. And one thing I've started doing (cause I've not had a job in 6 months and am also feeling the desperation seeping up)... is looking outside my comfort zone, at this point a JOB not a career.  you know?

Good luck darling.

Asher, use www.indeed.com and type in IT.  If you're not location-specific, it'll tell you where those jobs are.

I've seen a lot of less-than-competent folks at nonprofits.  Maybe you could get three or four PT gigs at local nonprofits providing IT support, and string them together to make a FT paycheck equivalent?

Government is ALWAYS hiring IT folks.  Look in the DC area.  If you're not terribly picky, you can find something (not in your specialty) at CareerBuilders.

Try google with "Manpower and network techs", there were scads of listings, I'd try them-- they usually have 6 week to 2 year contracts that often turn perm.

I was also going to suggest the DC/Northern Va area.  Seems like there are techie satellite and IT jobs every freakin' where     There a lot of local companies that do defense contracts locally...BAE Systems, Northrop Grumman and Lockheed Martin are three that come to mind, and they seem to be always looking for people with strong IT techie backgrounds.

Thanks man
I have an interview with PC Laptops next week, (( they will call me to supply the time later))
It was cool, when I went in the tech manager at the main store here told me that he would put my application forward with his personal recommendation :)

Not sure which states you're closest to but...Wyoming (and surrounds) is having unbelievable growth due to energy companies crawling all over the place like locusts.

The article I was reading a few months back talked about "the biggest building boom we've had in 40 years"...and..."if you've got a pulse....we're hiring".

I can't imagine opening up a hot dog stand today without computerized everything, and it seems they're building a lot more than hot dog stands.
