After a week of fires, they are finally under control and just about all out.  Over 200 lives lost in the devastation, and millions upon millions of dollars up in flames.  Just on $50million raised for the victims, which is amazing.

Found out fires were within 20 minutes of my sister's work.  What she would do having to evacuate a child care centre I have no idea.  Every single person in Victoria knows of someone who has been affected by these fires, either a home lost or a loved one perished in the fire.

And some arsehole religious leader decides its god's revenge for changing abortion laws.  Well, he'd know I suppose, I mean he comes from the Chase the Fire ministries.

The forces of nature humble us…Nature has a way... we must recognize and accommodate that way or people will die. I know arson was involved but not the true cause of the massive devastation.

We in the US are struggling as well to learn ways for nature to regulate the environment while we live within it. We have made progress but still have a long way to go.

I’m so glad your family is safe… God bless and good luck

Thanks Butch.

It was actually a disaster waiting to happen that nobody could actually see coming. The native trees of Australia are heavy with volatile oils. In hot weather, they can give off a haze which can easily catch light. It was a combination of this, intense heat, drought for 10 years, overgrown bush that wasn't back burned and arson. It travelled so fast and furious, not body really stood a chance.
