I have seen several posts on the use of chili oil or other hot oil, Ben Gay or other masochistic preparations like them. To stop the burn USE PLAIN VEGETABLE OIL OF ANY KIND like olive, almond or plain cooking oil. NEVER USE WATER/soap as this drives it deeper into the area. Rub gently in circles with fingers. Wipe gently and think of the plain oil as a rinse agent. You can reapply as you wipe off.

I am trained in aroma therapy and am going on lots of experience and good instruction having seen burns from hot oils like oregano and other powerful herb oils. I myself had to try this out when I used a pepper cream on my neck and back while fresh out of the shower, for muscle soreness. I felt like someone had put a hot iron on my back and neck. I sprinted for the kitchen and went for the cooking oil. It helped in just a few minutes.

Goodness me. I feel boring, using only hot wax.

But it's really hot wax, though. :D

amayos, did you happen to catch my acknowledgement on that other thread before they closed it out?

Thats helpful to know, I'm sure I've heard it somewhere else but it helps to hear it more than once (I'm a wee bit senile). Thanks for posting this!

Yes, oil is a good treatment for this. I've also found that cold cream (from the beauty counter) works well.

Oil works because it dilutes the stuff, most of it is oil soluble. As an alternative, use Dawn dishwashing detergent straight, without water. Dawn breaks up the oil and helps lift it off the skin. Once rubbed in, you can use more Dawn and then water to rinse it off.

It's what we used to get pepper spray off the face and out of the eyes (I was a cop for 17 years, the deparments here won't let you carry pepper spray unless you get sprayed with it in the training process). Believe me, that stuff is no fun on the skin or eyes. But it is not bad at all in chili! *evil grin*

YIK,
- Geoff

amayos, I don't know where I posted it now, but I had given you a smartass peevish answer, and you answered with admirable aplomb.
