I thought about the Kindle 2 whilst posting in the "Books...any goods ones ?" thread, but thought it best to start a new thread, rather than hijack that one.

I soooooo want to get one! I know it hasn't been released yet, so no one has any convincing horror stories to tell me, but convince me I don't need it! It's $359. Now, considering how I live (modest doesn't even begin to describe it), I could probably afford to indulge myself. However, there are two purchases I will be making soon that are already way over the top. (One a computer, my present one is almost 8 years old. Yeah...I know. And the other is a new cell phone, I've had my current one for just over 4 years and can no longer buy batteries for it. Do you see a trend? *L*)

It's so sleek and elegent looking. It's lightweight, will travel easily and can hold...a shitload of books!! (Okay, so not the most eloquent of descriptions but true!) I am lusting over it.

Decisions, decisions...future bag lady, but with a Kindle2, or a little more towards my retirement fund and no Kindle2.

Must...not let myself get tempted!

Any and all arguments against buying it are welcome. :)

I can't give you one reason not to buy it.  I got my Kindle right before Christmas and haven't had a single complaint about it.  Now, here comes Kindle 2 and I got mine too early.

Like you, I'm pretty frugal and don't usually want to spend that much on any one thing.  It has been sooooo worth it though.  Anyone who loves to read and always wants to have plenty of choices with them at any given time will probably love it.  The Kindle 2 is going to have DOUBLE the storage space the original has plus
25% more battery power, be only half as thick and have text-to-speech (pending the outcome of the current legal challenge).

Mine is great but Kindle 2 will be greater.  Go for it.  It's expensive, sure, but worth every cent and you'll enjoy it for years and years to come.  I've recommended it to several colleagues who have since ordered one.  Feel free to drop me a message "on the other side" and I'll be glad to go on and on about it's advantages

Damn slaveluci! You aren't helping at all! *LOL* And after getting a flat tire, I can afford a Kindle even less. *sighs* I will continue to lust after one though - even more so now that you've had so many good things to say.
