People who spend alot of time working and/or playing in deserts...and liking it...often refer to themselves as desert rats. It's an expression of pride for being able to thrive in a place where others fade, with a touch of self-effacement thrown in, just to throw ya off.

I had a similar name at the time I was going to delete. So, didn't want that name.

Used part of the name...and figured subs sort of hire me all of the time when they come into the hands of abusers. I protect a great many.

Seemed the right name at the time.

My reason is at the bottom of my profile.
I'm tired of explaining it.

I just carried it over from a few MSN and Yahoo Femdom groups I formerly belonged to.

When originally coined, it was simply an abbreviation of submissive fever, which exemplified the state of mind I frequently found myself in.

Mine is from the David Bowie song, "Velvet Goldmine".

"Velvet goldmine you stroke me like the rain.
Snake it, take it panther princess. You must stay,
velvet goldmine, naked on your chain.
I'll be your King Volcano,
writhe for you again and again."

Obviously, my parents chose this one.

However, my old scene name had an interesting genesis. I started out in the public scene as just John. Unfortunately, there are a lot of Johns in the scene (no hooker jokes please) so when a play partner of mine who didn't like "Master" started calling me "Her Mentor" in front of people, the last part stuck and after a bit everyone was calling me "Mentor." I guess it kinda fit.

I don't do chit chat online anymore, but when I did, I just got tired of the standard questions.

"asl?"
"Are you female" (although of course it came through: RU f?)...then,
"Are you sub?" (cause the profile listed BDSM as an interest, and of course all women are subs right? )
"Would you......?" followed by "I want...."

So I figured, I'd save some time, and list that I was a female Top from Michigan. My handle on Yahoo is the same, but from Detroit, to be more specific.

I still get asked the same questions though.

I wasn't out with everyone I knew in the more vanilla areas of my life so I used a name I'd picked up from a forensic class I was taking (Dahlia) - I wanted to make it quick and easy for anyone glancing at the name to determine whether or not I was Top or bottom so I tacked on Madame, as there's only a very select few that I enjoy being called "Mistress" by.

And until I own my own island and start making the rules and laws for the lovely paradise I can't rightly call myself Empress. But one day... mm... one day... Ahem. Err...

My name is actually Heather though. And I'm now out to everyone I know and care about. But since I've got people I talk to under this name I've stuck with it and never bothered to change it.

i use this name everywhere....but if i could give advice...i'd say don't use a number at the start of one's name in collarme because it means one can't use the chat, oh well

When I signed up, I felt like a mess, after trying for a couple of years to be 'vanilla' and failing miserably. I signed up in the middle of the night at the urgeing of a friend. I didnt want to pretend to "be" anybody I wasnt, was over trying to be somebody else. So....justheather it was.
My friend urged me to be "more creative" but I was in no shape to be creative and I felt very strongly that I just wanted to show up here as me.
Im glad I did.

ME TOO!! When I had the name EmeraldSlave2 and would hang out in the chats on AOL I'd constantly be asked "Are you sub?" or "r u sub?"

No...the name is just being ironic.

This is the explanation I gave for becoming LA:
A lot has changed in my life recently, partners, life choices, future plans. With that change has come new perspectives within me and expressed through me. Rarely does that transfer into a change of name as I prefer stability. However, this recent transition has caused me to feel a true need to push out into something new.

The main reason I chose to switch to a new name here is because I felt the name "EmeraldSlave" was limiting perceptions and growth of myself. I'm a lot more than a slave, I interact in many other ways, in ways most slaves don't. I changed to a new name without this specific orientation listed in it in order to bring a fresher, less loaded, perception into play. People can react to me as me, and not so much worry about the "slave" issue.

The idea of "albatross" comes from Serenity, the movie. I am a devoted Browncoat and the symbolism of an albatross, especially as seen from the perspective of Firefly, is a deeply emotional one for me. I felt it resonated within myself and expressed a new self perspective.

I like Lucky because it's simple and because so many (wrongly) believe that the albatross is a sign of bad luck. I love irony.

So there you have it.

I am a silly girl, jolly even. So its just a variation of one of my fave names to be called... during certain situations.... It didn't take long for one of my first CM pals to proclaim.... "Ho to the 3rd power!"
He got the corniness of it right away

like a bowl full of jelly,
