Using fast reply......... You see, I think we expect too much, one way or the other. I believe that almost all people have a balance within them. To expect that a person will always behave better than we would in any given situation is rediculous, yet we often do. To expect that any one person is just inherently evil and will do nothing good, is also rediculous. We simply have to look at people realistically. Expect them to behave realistically. Observe their strengths and weaknesses and know that, more often than not, they are going to follow true to form. If we take the time to really get to know them, and know the other people in their lives. Watch how they interact with those people and how the people that know them well, interact with them, we get a realistic view of what we can expect from them. I expect people to screw up, because that's what people do. I also expect people to do amazingly wonderful things that touch my heart, and they do. But to expect one without the other is setting them up to fail in your eyes. It's expecting them to be more than human and without the faults that you, yourself, have. We want them to love us as we are, yet we place so many unrealistic conditions on the love we give. In my eyes, that is a very selfish thing.

I'm cynically optimistic, I know I'll find someone, but am sketical about everyone I meet at first. It has nothing to do with kink, just the ups and downs of my life and the relationships I've had with people, whether they be friends, girlfriends or family members. I'm a fighter, so I'll never give up, but I certainly step back every so often and say 'what the fuck?' and take a break. I think that's where I am at this point. I was dating a lot in the last part of last year and after all the possibilities fizzled out, I just decided to take a break from actively searching.

I think that I was raised to be cynical. I don't trust politicians or bureaucrats. I don't trust used car salesmen, and even that guy on those "E-Harmony" commercials seems a bit too slick for me. I put up a profile on "My Space," and I didn't even say I was looking for anyone, and all I ever got were ads from what appeared to be thinly-veiled sex sites. I'm fairly new to this site, so I haven't yet made up my mind. But a lot of public sites like this will invariably get inundated with trolls and slicksters. Caveat emptor. I see people mentioning the "other site," and to be honest, I didn't even know about collarme.com until just a few days ago. This seems to be the better site, although it does run terribly slow at times. But I can see how someone might get cynical, regardless of the situation. If you put your trust in someone and get burned one too many times, it can happen. You roll the dice and take your chances, and sometimes, it comes up craps. You can either cut your losses, cash out, and drop out of the game, or keep trying. I dropped out for a few years, but now I'm back.

Thank you, MissMorrigan! I certainly don't think my approach is infalliable, but so far, I've had wonderful results with it, and a fairly low percentage of unwanted contacts. [:D] I hope you get opportunities to meet everyone you want to.

I doubt it's related to the couples vs. single profile - I'm single, and several ladies who are in relationships have complained that they got spammed with the worst stuff when they had a couples profile.
